Tiny little island unto itself in a big city

I lived in Tierrasanta for three years. I was always bored. They have a couple grocery stores (and by a couple I literally mean like two), they don't have a mall except little strips of shops next door to each other. I don't recall there being any really good restaurant to sit down and eat at, only lots of drive thru's. This place is fine if you want a nestled away place to live in fine looking apartments but you'll pay the exact same price for it as you would anywhere else in San Diego. To go anywhere exciting like a mall, or nice restaurants you need to get on the freeway but the Fashion Valley Mall is close by within like ten or fifteen minutes. They call it "The Island In The Hills" for a reason - its like living on an island in the middle of a city, surrounded by freeways to get anywhere "off the island" and actually have some fun. I could see this being a good place to live for old people, but for young people this place will get real small real fast.
