Just Keep Driving User Rating 1 rating By Anonymous ( Jan 31, 2024) Salisbury has a reputation for being one of the worst cities in the state of Maryland with regards to crime, the local economy, and attitude of residents. I've been through here many times on the way to OCMD/Assateague Island, and it has always been a sketchy town. The last time ...Read More I visited, a group of men who appeared to be be suffering from various levels of inbreeding pulled up next to us at an intersection, and attempted to throw live sparklers and fireworks into the open Jeep we were riding in. This place definitely has the vibe of an impoverished, deep south town with racial issues, and judging by other reviews it seems that assumption is not far off.

The one redeeming quality seems to be the University, which is relatively affordable and has a fairly nice campus/education standard. There does seem to be a lot of drug dealing and violent disputes in the area around campus, at least according to anecdotal and police evidence. At least Salisbury is a relatively short drive (30-45 mins) to a nice day trip at the beaches. Unless you are retired, or the pay is good, I would recommend not living here, just keep driving through Salisbury. Read Less

Wow, what a s*&thole User Rating 0.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jul 11, 2019) It´s like the state goverment/Annapolis/Baltimore has completely abandoned this portion of the state & given it to the Perdue corporation for a couple of bucks under the table. A Fortune 500 company in a town of 30k people and they still can´t manage to keep up the place up?! J ...Read More ust thinking out loud here, but maybe Perdue doesn´t pay their fair share of taxes, eh? Especially for the environmental impact of their gross, stinking industry.

Lucky for us, the powers that be have also located the biggest prison in the state just south of the town (talk about the hypocrisy - the place is filled with convicts from Baltimore). Truly, the real crime is how few resources & oversight there is here.

The underdeveloped, underserved, & undereducated population struggles to attain anything like normal life found elsewhere in the state. Horrific health care, poor schools, bad roads, lousy employment options, jacked up prices in a few poorly run chain stores, cultural-familial ret***ation run amok... the worst of it all, as others have said. It really is like a small second world country located inside Maryland´s borders. Oh, and the best part, they manage to vote hard right every time.

The upshot, I guess, is that filming a Mad Max movie or a Walking Dead episode here will be very easy. The zombies are already in place. Read Less
Do NOT live in SBY!!!! User Rating 0.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jul 31, 2018) Sby is, objectively, NOT a good place to live. Racism is rampent, and race relations are contentious (a direct lineage of the plantation system in the area). Salisbury University is disconnected from the community. Poverty, unemployment, and crime are high. The place is also envi ...Read More ronmentally hazardous, with mega-chicken farms dominating the rural areas (on hot summer days, one can REALLY smell this!). Relatedly, there is little to no open land (trees, parks, etc.). There is no entertainment or nightlife to speak of, no food co-ops, no local grocery—all of which seems odd given the size of the city and it’s proximity to larger metropolitan areas like DC & Philly. I wish there was some redeeming quality, but honestly, the city’s quality of life is very bad. There is no social solidarity or community feel in the area, only conflict and division. Trust me: if you have the option, do NOT live here. Read Less

Warning: Stay away! User Rating 0.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jul 31, 2018) Unfortunately, some people were born in this hellhole and have no means of getting out. Worst City to Live in. User Rating 0.5 rating By Boredom5 ( Jan 13, 2018) Rant:The "City" of Salisbury (by population it's counted as a large town) is one of the worst places to live. And the biggest problem is the City Government which loves the word taxes similar to Maryland. And the failure by such a government is what causing the unemployment rates ...Read More . Since during my decade living in this town I have seen zero benefits brought by the city except increasing taxes, one of which was the rain tax being brought back by the name Bay Rest R in water and sewer bills. I may also have to mention that Salisbury is ranked as one of the highest taxed while being one of the poorest in the State of Maryland. And with the continuation of the failure by the city government employers flee the city. In the last three years several major employers had a massive exodus out of Salisbury, with employers including Safran Labinal, Gander Mountain, Gymboree, Kmart, and Corporate office of Perdue. Which cost the residents of Salisbury almost a quarter of jobs. And this does not include smaller businesses that had close their doors and possible closings in the next few years such as Sears, Toys R Us, and small businesses. Local Amenities:Attractions: There are very few attractions within Salisbury with the only things available being the Salisbury Zoo, Poplar Hill Mansion, and Brewing Company. There are some seasonal events, but that itself pale in comparison to near identical events approximately an hour away.Community: This is non-existent within Salisbury since the city is literally split in half by a major road that drives pass the town. Which means that the city has two community that have very little relations with each other than school or work. On most cases talking with or having gatherings with neighbors are rare.Nightlife: Nightlife is also non-existent with the only things available being bars or taverns where people drink. The City is also extremely scary at night with crime rates doubled the national average in almost all categories.Dining: Just yuck there are very few restaurants that serve decent food with most places serving either salty, sour, bland, greasy, or sweet foods. The place with the best food in Salisbury is Salisbury University, which isn't available to anyone except professors and students of the University.Shopping: There is a mall with very few stores, a Walmart, Sam's Club, and places like Food Lion. Truth be told no one goes shopping in Salisbury many drive to other places around an hour away. Read Less
I'm Back Again User Rating 0.5 rating By Midtown ( Oct 03, 2016) Ok, I'm back with the second review. I had to walk this morning and I have seen so many sticky burrs in my life. I don't know where to begin User Rating 0.5 rating By Midtown ( Sep 26, 2016) First off, let me start with of stores around here. The mall is trash. I don't even know why they call it a mall. It should be considered a plaza. The clothing here is basic. The cars are basic. The people are basic. The schools are just trash. The racists are out here like roac ...Read More hes. There is literally nothing to do and they have the nerve to call this a city. The people here have no education. AT ALL. The white people their taxes but whole time they only make $30,000 a year. The black people are ghetto and barely any of them want to learn about their history. (which is why they're stupid). They swear they are making all this money but I'm like bish where? As long as you drive a 1995 Lexus and have a pair retro 6 jordans you are making money. The white people act like all black people are lazy and ghetto. Like honey, I make $70,000 more than you. All they care about is farming (which is also why they are stupid), their chicken houses, deer, F150, fishing, and Donald Trump. They are the reason why people in Baltimore and D.C. call it "Slower Lower". Everyone here is slow. The schools are horrible. They are so unorganized and slow. I will be back with a second review because I can't with Slower Lower. Read Less
