Don't move here. There are reasons the houses are cheap. Save yourself the headaches and either move to Fort Worth proper or pick a different "suburb". There's no reason this place should be a separate city and it would be better off being annexed into Fort Worth. On top of using ...Read More
Fort Worth utilities, the local government here in worthless. No urgency in community improvement projects and when they do get around to fixing the roads or ancient utilities, it takes forever. They just raised our prices on water/trash/sewage again. Why? Because they use Fort Worth for all of that and Fort Worth raised their prices recently. Which would be fine if River Oaks also gave us curbside trash bins and didn't cancel the recycling throughout the city due to "lack of interest". The "lack of interest" came from people having to buy separate bags for recycling because we don't get bins. So we're paying the same amount as Fort Worth residents, price increases are in lock-step with FW, but River Oaks residents don't get as much for their money. The bills are up to $115 a month as of December of 2022. When I moved out here in 2018, it was $93/mo for utilities. Over $20 increase in under 5 years and they've only reduced what you get for that money. There are a lot of feral animals around here that dig into the trash and the whole town is just kinda dirty and crumbling from lack of investment in community improvement by the local government. I've noticed attempts to spruce up the town in the last couple years but it needs a lot of work to get into this century, and that's from points of both functionality and entertainment. I'm not sure where the tax money is going in this town but it's not going where it should.
There's nothing to do here unless you have kids, and even then, there's not a lot. A lot of church events. There's no public library anymore (discontinued in 2021), the parks are dirty and poorly maintained. There's no nightlife and everything closes really early. There's only 1 bar I feel comfortable going to around here (shout out to McFly's), the rest look like a place you'd go to hire a hit man. There is, however, a surplus of churches. There are less than 8,000 people living here and there are multiple streets with multiple churches next to and across the street from each other. So to recap, no public library, excessive amount of churches. There are hardly any sidewalks throughout the town so if you live an active lifestyle outdoors, this probably isn't your spot. It's poorly lit at night and not pedestrian friendly any time of the day. I don't feel comfortable walking my dogs around my neighborhood because of a lack of sidewalks and lack of consideration from local drivers. I do not feel safe walking around here at night under any circumstances. This place used to claim it was the safest town in Texas and have stopped doing that because it isn't true, probably never was. This place doesn't have the money to be that safe.
Fort Worth proper is a better option if you need more out of where you live than church and a cheap house.

Most of the city is trash! Most of the people that live here are the type of neighbors that you don't want to live next to. When you call the police, and if they show up it will be 3 or four hours later. There are feral cats roaming the city, and animal control will do nothing to ...Read More
remedy the situation except offer to loan you a trap. Trash cans are not allowed at the curb. Your trash must be set out for the feral cats to tear in to. If animal control is dispatched out to you, they are unhelpful, unreliable, and unfriendly. Everyone has a dog that barks non-stop, and you are informed to call the police to file a noise complaint. Again, IF they show up, they will do nothing. They get their water from the city of Fort Worth so they charge an arm and a leg for it. However, you don't want to drink it anyways because it tastes like chlorine due to all of the chemicals they put in it. The city had numerous violations in 2017 for their water quality. DO NOT MOVE TO RIVER OAKS!
