Prunedale is semi rural in that there is lots of land but also nearby shopping. Iv lived here for 15 years now and love it. The weather is perfect. Yes, it’s definitely gone downhill in recent years. Everything in california has gone downhill thanks to newsome. There is literal ...Read More
ly nothing for kids to do other than a few sports at manzanita. However starting Dec 2022 we will have our first playground that is open to the public at manzanita! Only other park costs money to go. Salinas is a 10 minute drive away and there are lots of issues there. Lots of crime. But Prunedale is a wonderful little community that looks out for each other. I have fantastic considerate neighbors. The schools suck. They are not very multi-cultural at all as they are 99.9% Hispanic students only. Mexican heritage is everywhere you look. Many kids do not speak English and this lowers the standardized testing drastically. There is some really lovely parts of Prunedale and some not so great. The less favorable areas have several families is one home due to high cost of living. The wells were not built to supply that many people in one home. This creates water supply issues on top of the already liberal created drought. Our water gets flushed out to the ocean every year thanks to politics. It’s dumb. Some areas really suck thanks to loud neighbors with their mariachi music. Prunedale is a canyon so noise echoes very loudly. But all in all I love our little town. Good people, good weather and simply put its home.

While yes, it is beautiful, the cost of living is ridiculous. As current renters we've lived in the same house for the past 8 years, and pay $1300 monthly rent, which is an amazing deal. We also do our own repairs and get flooded every other year. The owners are long time friend ...Read More
s, otherwise we would expect to pay about $2500 month for this 3 bedroom, 1 bath home that has a roof so overgrown with moss you'd think a hobbit lives here. The lowest grade cheapest gas is at $4 a gallon, which is also what a gallon of milk costs. I live right across the street from acres upon acres of strawberry fields, forever.... yet pay $8 for a basket of them at the store and $3 for a head of lettuce, even though it's considered the lettuce Capitol of the world... there are jobs, few of them pay well and you had better know Spanish if you expect top get them. Your best bet, multi family. Mortgage payments for an average size house(like mine) are very seldom less than $4000 a month... the schools are horrible. Instead of pushing the children to do better, they lower the standards. I'd your kid doesn't go ti school, you go to jail. Since the schools are riddled with gangs, sometimes this is complicated. My car had been broken into, someone tried to break into my house a few weeks ago, while I was home and awake.... they left their butter knife in the door jam, there's gone invasions and a big meth and heroin problem amongst adults AND high school children. There's been 4 of my daughters friends in the past 2 years that have committed suicide and someone is chucking ball bearings onto windshields on the highway a few times a day for the past year and the police can't seem to catch them. So...Yes, Monterey is close, it's pretty... is it worth it? Ive lived here my entire life, the climate is pretty nice year round comparatively speaking ... that's about the only thing going for it. That is the un-sugar coated truth.
