I am a resident of Parkersburg, VA. The living conditions here are not the greatest. The population is a little over 30, OO0 with 25% living in poverty. The advantage of the area is it's small and quaint but the crime rate is considerably higher than the national average. The unemployment rate is over 5% and the average person here who rents only grosses around $19,000. The cost of living is fairly inexpensive. The properties are extremely reasonable if you have a secured a career as an engineer or another high paying job. You really can get a good amount of square footage for under 100, 000.
Parkersburg, WV is full of history dating back to the Civil War with the museums taking you back in time. Exploring Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park offers a beautiful view of the Ohio River. There are plenty of trails to take in to receive nature's therapy. The fish jumping out the river and horseback riding through the forest provides a great sense of serenity that these mountains hold preciously.
