      Cruelty abounds here

I purchased a house in Paducah, and was immediately set upon by one man working for the city. The house was a historical one, and had very little wrong with it. Some of the wiring had been updated in the 1970's, but most of it was older. Instead of helping us, he condemned the house and put us out. Then, I was fined for not getting the work done in six months. I was never given a timetable by the city for getting the work done. Then, because I disagreed with the decision, I was fined another $20,000. The house now sits, boarded up, falling into disrepair. This man had a vendetta against me and I don't know why, except that he told me, "I hate that house". People that I went to for help were not nice. This is not a friendly place for outsiders. The people are cruel. I think maybe it was because my baby son is mixed race, but I will never be sure. Avoid this place.

Paducah, KY: A Forgettable Southern City

I lived in Paducah for a little while but left because it had very few opportunities. It is pretty far away from any larger cities and the local job market leaves a lot to be desired. If you're looking for a well-paying job or colleges, you will find little here. While the real estate here looks affordable, that's because the crime rate is much above the state average and there are few high-end jobs available.

On the other hand, Paducah has some nice natural areas you can visit. Shawnee National Forest sits along the cities northern edge and is a great place to visit. You can hike there or just visit for an afternoon with your dog or some friends. There aren't many stores here either, so you'll need your own car to drive to neighboring cities to find what you need in a lot of cases. If you have an opportunity to live somewhere else, you're most likely better off taking it.
