The phrase "you get what you pay for" has never been more true than when you move to Oceanside, NY. Despite the name, you aren't actually on the Oceanside of the bay. But you are on the water and so close to New York City that you can see its building on the horizon. The houses are an interesting mix of old stock and new buildings, but the overall feel is like a really homey beach community.

But Oceanside is also an expensive place to live, even when compared to New York City. I was shocked by the costs when we moved here and it only got worse after Hurricane Sandy hit. That damage forced the city into prohibiting some houses from being rebuilt, increasing the prices of the already pricey houses.

I stay here because aside from the housing costs, Oceanside is a great place to live. The people are friendly, I'm close to everything NYC has to offer and since I'm close to the water, the summer weather is perfect. Oceanside isn't for everyone, but I can't imagine living anywhere else.
