Norwalk, CA - A Refreshing Break From Los Angeles User Rating 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 11, 2010) Norwalk is a fairly pleasant area located in Los Angeles County, south of the city itself. With the plentiful shopping, restaurant and dining opportunities, I have traveled there several times and found the best restaurant to be Sara's Mexican Bar & Grill. Originally I had stoppe ...Read More d there, thinking the place didn't look very spectacular but was intrigued because it shared my name. I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent food, cooked to perfection and friendly attitude of the staff and owner in this fantastic Norwalk restaurant.

Unlike the trendy style of many boutique shopping areas or generic malls in greater Los Angeles is the Norwalk Town Square shopping center. With a diversity of popular and unique stores and set up to resemble a traditional town square, this location combines a 1950s style with modern architecture. Parking is usually easy to accomplish, which is a refreshing rarity in this city.

Located near four major freeways, Norwalk is a reasonably priced area to live and jobs are easier to find than many areas in Los Angeles. Retail is the main industry in this city. Whether moving or visiting, everyone is sure to find something to love about Norwalk. Read Less

      Norwalk, CA

Norwalk may not be as well-known as some of Los Angeles' other suburbs, but the city is located within a short striking distance from Hollywood and other LA attractions. With a population of over 100,000, it is one of the least populated cities in the LA Metro Area. That does not seem to bother the residents of this community though who enjoy a high quality of life, low crime, and good job opportunities.

Norwalk's Zimmerman Park is a microcosm of life in the city for many as the park provides amazing opportunities to recreate and friendship for the city's tiniest residents. The park has received a modern upgrade with new playthings that are perfect for young children. Golf-n-Stuff is another attraction that is suitable for families. The company's go-carts and mini golf course are great for a first date or a corporate outing. Driving under the lights is a magical experience that many teenagers say that remember well after they have left home. Adults who are looking to leave the children at home with the babysitter can opt for a night out on the town at The Gardens Casino. Testing your luck on the slots of the poker table is always a good option when you are there.

Home prices in Norwalk are expensive, but not quite as steep as in other LA suburbs. Since the city is not located on the coast, you may even be able to find a bargain or two out there on your hunt for a new home. Bloomfield Ave, City Center, and Pioneer Blvd are typically good areas to target as you begin your hunt for a home to buy or rent in the area. When you are looking at homes, you will want to see what the traffic is like in the area since it is a major problem in Norwalk and the great LA Metro Area. While the city does have public transit options available through a city-run service, it can take a while to get to your final destination if you have to commute during rush hour.

Medical providers are plentiful in Norwalk, and some of the largest employers in the city come from this sector of the economy. Those who are fortunate to work as a doctor or a nurse are some of the highest earners in the area. There are a number of local area schools that also offer jobs to a large number of professors, teachers, administrators, and support staff. Cerritos College is a four-year degree program that targets local high school graduates. John Glenn High School and Julia B. Morrison Elementary School are a couple of the schools that are highly regarded in the area.
