Cows, colleges and contentment is the theme of Northfield, Minnesota because its culture is dominated by two colleges: Carleton and Saint Olaf. The Carleton Ultimate Team has won national championships. Saint Olaf ...Read More is on Manitou Hill and decidedly Scandinavian.

You might smell Malt O’ Meal in the air because a major plant is nearby. The best areas in Northfield are along the Cannon River or in the Arboretum (the Arb). There is plenty of wildlife for those who want to commune with Mother Nature. If you are a history buff, then you might know that Northfield stopped Jesse James.

Life is slower in small town Northfield, so if you like that, you will like Northfield. Most community events are associated with the colleges. Otherwise, life is rather low-key. Nightlife and shopping are rather limited. But, if you want to hear birds greeting you in the morning, Northfield is for you. Read Less
