Love it here, but not perfect, especially regarding the restaurants ...

It is a great place, (mt p), no doubt about it., but I will say I laugh a bit at the folks claiming all the great restaurants in town .. Perhaps that's all the soccer moms wanting a great selection of drive-thrus ! So If you want generic, corporate/chain, fast food, etc, , Abso ...Read More
lutely (3 taco bells, 3 chick-fil-a's), yes it's all here in MT P .. But very very few mom-and-pop, eclectic, places.. Hardly any ethnic food.. Here we are in the south with all the great BBQ and there's hardly a thing. Go to Greenville and there's an easy dozen of them . . Many of us locals, (20 years) believe it's because of the crazy high cost of property (rents), etc. Mom and pop can't afford it.. That's a real shame too. Wasn't like that 15 or so years ago, but folks can't afford to run their businesses any more.. It's a bit sad that other similar sized cities in the Carolinas are more 'foodie' heaven, but MT Pleasant is not !! It would be so great if Mt Pleasant had the same food scene as say Asheville, then perhaps we could call this Mt Perfect ...

My wife and I just love living in Mt. Pleasant. We've been here for a year now and cannot imagine living anywhere else. The city is simply beautiful. Even the parking lots at all of the various stores are pretty. Town Centre is the big shopping area. I come from Minnesota where e ...Read More
xists the Mall of America where everything is under one roof (which it has to be as winter lasts nearly 6 months!) but Town Centre has that and more in a large and beautiful, open air shopping experience.
There are several sections of the city that have there own particular personality. Along the harbor resides Patriots Point where you can tour the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier, play the links at Patriots Point Links, and stroll the Pitt Street Bridge in the Old Village of Mt. Pleasant. Near Patriots Point is the Shem Creek area where fisherman bring their catch into the marina and feed the several beautiful restaurants that sit next to the creek. To the north lies Belle Hall, a pleasant living area full of amenities. To the south and east, just outside of the city is Sullivan's Island, a rather laid back and somewhat eclectic beach island. To the north and east is Town Centre which is located near the Isle of Palms (IOP) Connector which will take you to the very family friendly IOP beach in a couple of minutes.
There is never a lack of things to do in this wonderful city. I only wish I had come here to live years ago.

We have lived in Mount Pleasant for 5 years. We really like it. The crime rate is low, and there are very few places which feel unsafe. The schools here are superb, with experienced and caring teachers and principals. It is a bit expensive to live here, but we feel that it is ...Read More
worth the extra money for the safety, convenience to shopping and restaurants, easy beach access, and great schools. Our favorite family activities include going to the Charleston County Parks (including the water parks in the summer), going to Blackbeards Cove (which offers inexpensive annual passes), and going to the beach. The recreation centers in Mount Pleasant and on Isle of Palms offer great programs for children. There is also a fenced dog park in Park West. Mount Pleasant is just outside of Charleston, so it is a short drive to the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry and the Aquarium. The best restaurants are located in downtown Charleston. My favorite is Slightly North of Broad. Also, Mount Pleasant is very close to James Island, which holds the fabulous annual Festival of Lights.

I moved to Mount Pleasant from the small town of a small state called Coventry, Rhode Island. Growing up in Rhode Island has not exactly prepared me for life in the south, but in a way I am grateful for the exciting surprises I seem to often encounter even after living here for t ...Read

wo years. First of all, the people are a lot friendlier and less rushed. I remember northerners always made life more hectic than it ever had to be, but people in the south seem to be a little less stressed. This relaxed environment is perfect for my personality.
One of my favorite things about living in South Carolina has to be the many museums and historical sites. I consider myself something of a history buff, so I am always trying to convince friends to come with me to the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum. You can walk through old WWII vessels and see what that time was really like. There is also the Patriots Point Links which is great if you are a golfer, and I certainly am. The course is beautiful and I absolutely love the model rocket out front. Again, I love history and that stuff is right up my alley. Aside from all the great museums I do fairly enjoy dining in Mount Pleasant, though it is not my favorite. I still have my roots in New England food and have a tough time changing that fact.
I definitely recommend Mount Pleasant to anyone looking for a friendly and laid back city that makes you proud to be an American. From the links to the history, Mount Pleasant has become my home and will continue to be my home for years to come. Nothing against little Coventry, Rhode Island, but I would never move back after experiencing South Carolina. Even the weather is better. No more frigid northern winters that last longer than the summers. Mount Pleasant is exactly where I want to be right now, and I can't imagine living anywhere else.
