Mobile, AL: The Simple Life

Mobile, Alabama, is a beautiful Southern community especially when the azaleas are in bloom. It is the third largest city in Alabama and serves as the county seat of Mobile County. Approximately 412,000 residents depend on Mobile Bay to provide many jobs along with delicious catfish. The oldest Mardi Gras celebration in the United States occurs in this community that is known as one of the cultural capitals of the United States. The community has many historic neighborhoods with gorgeous mansions as the city was first founded in 1701. This community is extremely diverse. Residents can enjoy viewing French, Spanish, Creole, African and Catholic landmarks around the town. If you decide to move to Mobile, then you will want to keep your rain gear handy as it is the wettest community in the Continental United States. While the average daytime high is 77 degrees, summers tend to be very humid making them seem even warmer while most of the rain falls in winter.

The oldest public school in Alabama is located in Mobile, and the community still puts a major emphasis on the quality of education students receive within the community. Most students attend one of the 85 public schools operated by Mobile County Public School District. More than 55,000 students attend the district, which also covers many of Mobile's suburbs. Eleven public bus routes and an extensive downtown bus system makes it easy to get around the city.

It is cheaper to live in Mobile than most places in the United States. The cost of housing in Mobile is about 50 percent less than many areas of the United States. Residents have a choice of many great neighborhoods with some of the surrounding communities being even less expensive.
