Bedroom Community, Tribal Community, City is trying to make good User Rating 3 rating By MrsDocNavyGuy ( Oct 23, 2013) I have lived in Marysville for the past 4 years. My experience is that there is a problem with racism against European whites. The tribe has a great impact on the community, especially in the schools. The crime in this community seems to be due to drugs and the lack of parenta ...Read More l involvement. This is a bedroom community so parents leave the city to go to work to drive to Seattle and Bellevue. This leaves kids to take care of themselves (IMHO).

The city does try to have events, concerts and movies in the park, a city festival and parade, street fairs and soon there will be a water spray park at Comford Park! Jennings Park is a great park with fishing pond and master garden, great staff who are dedicated to their jobs too! There was a new Walmart opened last month (September 2013), there is a Cabela's on the reservation and there is plenty of shopping.

Schools have low test scores, probably due to lack of parental involvement. That being said, there are great people here, there are great teachers too. There are nice homes at good prices and the views are amazing! Go up the hill and look out over the mountain ranges, the hundreds of acres of trees and the Puget sound at sunset is amazing. I will miss those!

The attractions are mainly Cabela's and the Factory outlet mall. Boom City is super fun and summers on "the Rez" are like a war zone of fire works! The community is working hard to have a nice place to bring up a family. I've been to the City Council meetings and the council wants to protect this community from the evils of drugs and criminal businesses (ie marijuana farming). The nightlife is limited to the casinos, but there are a couple. Restaurants are plentiful within 8 to 10 miles of my home. The Outlet Mall has nice restaurants and Smokey Point also has restaurants. Shopping is GREAT! I only wish there was a Sam's Club near by, but there is everything else!

I don't think this is a fantastic place for being single, at least for the quality of singles I would want my daughter to date, they are there, but not plentiful. Couples, unless you are planning on starting a family, or you just love to blow your wad at the casinos I don't think there is a lot here. You can drive to the mountains, or the city, but why not move closer if that is what you want?

I was used to going to the market and not seeing people in their pajamas. I like walking around the city and not hearing filthy language, you can forget that! I don't like taking my family to a carnival and being threatened by a tribal member because I didn't smile at her daughter, really! Having blonde hair, blue eyes and white skin has been detrimental to me and my family in this city. I have heard others being bullied for the same thing! Something that I didn't notice growing up in Los Angeles. Read Less
