Compare Maple Ridge, BC Livability

      vs

      Maple Ridge, BC

Maple Ridge is sandwiched between the Fraser River and the Golden Ears Provincial Park in the northeastern part of Metro Vancouver. It is the fifth-oldest city in British Columbia, dating back to 1874. As a result, Maple Ridge has numerous heritage buildings, which just adds to the beauty of this charming city. There are a number of historic neighbourhoods within the city, as well as outdoor areas to enjoy recreational activities. Maple Ridge also has a strong hold in the forestry and agriculture industry.

The city’s downtown core is in Haney, which is also home to numerous heritage buildings. It is also the trendiest area of the city in terms of shopping and dining, and where most Maple Ridge residents will steer you to enjoy some of the city’s best nightlife. Haney, together with Albion, are the one of the most popular places to live in the city, especially considering they are home to some lovely converted Edwardian houses. Haney is also great in terms of transportation, with all buses travelling through the area to and from the Haney Place Exchange. There are also commuter trains right into Downtown Vancouver.

Maple Ridge has always attracted families and retirees as a result of its tight-knit communities, beautiful surroundings, easy access to Vancouver and good schools. There are also three post-secondary institutions in the city, as well as an adult learning centre. Plus, Maple Ridge is substantially cheaper than many other cities in Greater Vancouver when it comes to cost of living. It is also a safe city with friendly, multicultural residents.

In addition to the historic neighbourhoods, there is a great culture scene in the city and it is home to many artists. The Arts Centre and Theatre represents this the most and where both visual and theatre art can be enjoyed. Any Maple Ridge guide will also say to be sure to go on a Fraser River Heritage Walk, which starts at the Port Haney Wharf, passes Historic Haney House and goes to the Maple Ridge Museum. There are also plenty of things to do on time off, like mountain biking, horseback riding, bird watching and canoeing. A must is also to go hiking in the Golden Ears Provincial Park.
