My husband and I moved here with our two sons in 2000. We came from West San Jose. Our WSJ home had Cupertino schools, but ZERO charm. So the schools were a HUGE draw for us. We love the friendly "small town" vibe. We also love the the parks, (especially Vasona) the walkability t ...Read More
o town, and the sheer beauty of the tree lined neighborhoods. Los Gatos is close to Silicon Valley tech jobs, 20 mins to the Santa Cruz area beaches, an hour's drive to SF, only 10 mins to world class shopping at Santana Row, and 15 mins to the bustle of Downtown San Jose, and the SJ airport. We have a lot of fun things to do in and around LG, and we like to support our local businesses. We hit Santa Cruz twice a month, go to SF for concerts and theatre...we love going to the area's many parks.
In 20 years, the value of our home has more than doubled. So sure, it's an expensive place to buy a home, but the homes here keep their value. Moving our young family to Los Gatos in 2000 was the single best decision we ever made!

What’s not to like? Los Gatos is ranked the 33rd wealthiest city in the United States (according to Bloomberg Businessweek) and it looks it.
Located at the base of the Santa Cruz mountains Los Gatos is a fantastic little town. World class restaurants (celebrity chef David Kin ...Read More
ch has two eateries and a bakery located here), an historic & charming downtown area, many beautiful neighborhoods, and easy access to several freeways make this a great place to live and raise a family. Bounded on most sides by mountains there is little room for growth so the population will likely remain stable at around 30,000. Schools are some of the most highly rated in the country and all have been substantially upgraded and modernized in the last decade.
On the downside, buying into this town is quite expensive with the average house going for around $2M. Traffic can be an issue on weekends as cars flood the freeway and parts of the town on their way to the beach. There isn’t much nightlife and the place is downright silent by about 9pm most every night but that’s a plus to all us folks who have to get up early and go to work. The much younger and noisier town of Campbell is only a few minutes away if nightlife is needed. Lastly, it has proven an excellent investment for me having purchased my property around 1994.
Hard for me to imagine living anywhere else.

(San Jose), Pacific Ocean (Santa Cruz), and Silicon Valley, there is nothing missing. You can visit a Santa Cruz Mountain ghost town like Patchen California, a mountain winery for tasting, choose & cut your own Christmas tree, pick your own lavender, spend time at the beach and ride a steam train through the redwoods all in the same day.
