Westlake, Los Angeles: Cheap Housing Close To Downtown L.A. User Rating 5 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 06, 2012) I have lived near the Westlake, Los Angeles area for almost two decades and would never stray too far away. The location is ideal to feel the urban pulse and vibrant heartbeat of L.A. while enjoying the city's unique and entertaining amenities. Walk to the area's best dining, bou ...Read More tique shopping, and blend in with the hip and happening community located just minutes away in downtown Los Angeles. Nearby Westlake attractions include the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the L.A. Museum complex on Exposition Park Boulevard, and the University of Southern California situated across the street from the fabulous museums.

Westlake attracts young urban professionals that enjoy meeting and mixing with a variety of people and cultures. From the local eclectic dining options to the multi-cultural museum exhibitions, Westlake living offers an historical and charming neighborhood to enjoy the arts, sciences and entertainment industry.

The majority of the Westlake residential properties are older homes built in the early 1900's with a dash of low-rise condos located near the city's main streets. Many of the condos are at least thirty years old and they remain one of the best bargain housing deals for central L.A. living.

Although older than most condos in Los Angeles County, many Westlake units are equipped with gourmet kitchens, one or more balconies, and upgraded with modern recessed lighting fixtures.

The downside to Westlake living is the growing crime rate and the limited street parking spaces for residents and guest street parking availability on holidays. However, with so many recreational and entertainment options in the tiny Westlake area, the parking issues are a minor disturbance to this trendy enclave retreat in the heart of L.A. Westlake is an ideal location for singles, couples and those who desire a swift and easy commute into the downtown Los Angeles area.
