Welcome to Tijuana!

If living in Tijuana is your goal, welcome home. My 91405 was 75% Latinx in one of the more recent census results, and I'm sure it's higher than that now. In my twenty years on the same street I've seen three dead bodies under police tarps at the curb. The one across from my h ...Read More
ouse was for sure a drive-by, based on police presence and a one-paragraph item on Page 27 of a Valley newspaper. None made our local newscasts, so we can presume several more have actually occurred.
I came home last year to a homeless guy sleeping on my front lawn. I've been burglarized eight times in my 35 years in L.A., including a 65" flat-screen, even with alarm systems (which are only as good as the programmed system delay and the quick response of the company ... a lot can be taken in 2 minutes, then another 2 minutes for me to arrive at my house).
My 2-bed 1-bath 900' house in this bad neighborhood is currently in escrow for $620,000. Rentals here are gone in the first hour; each has 100 applicants due to increasing foreclosures. According to SF Chronicle, est. 15,000 small businesses in L.A. are closed due to Covid, and Yelp tells us 75% of these are gone for good.
The state has made shoplifting less than $900 a misdemeanor, and as a sanctuary state CA is still welcoming more illegals. Prisoners are being released due to overcrowding. Gasoline cars are outlawed in 15 more years, as are all fossil fuel electric plants. We have rolling brownouts now, my power has gone out three times so far this year (for several hours) and there's a homeless mini-encampment twenty yards away on the corner.
Traffic is horrendous; crime is everywhere; MS-13 graffiti was scrawled on a wall across from my house; and every house on my street is behind a wall or a fence.
Our choice on every state ballot is between a Democrat and a Democrat. This is the state they built, this is the state they want. If all this sounds attractive, welcome home!
P.S.: That glowing review above (below?) They cancelled that car parade quite awhile ago; it's only a "quiet community" if you ignore the nightly sirens and helicopters; and downtown in 30 minutes "with no traffic"?!? When would that be, Sunday morning 3:00 a.m.? In the real world it's more like 90 minutes, with speeds averaging 15 mph. If any of these 20,000 cars on the road with you has a wreck, then even that's optimistic.
If you can actually manage to make it somewhere, e.g. groceries or a Big Mac, expect a level of service a la Caracas, Venezuela.
P.P.S.: Livability score of 56%?!? Scores of F across the board garners a 56%? On a scale of 56-100, maybe.

both a quiet and socially active neighborhood. It has a lot of young folks as well as families and couples. There are a number of attractions, cafes, restaurants, actors studios, antique shops, and you are very close to downtown Los Angeles.
Some of the main attractions include the incredible old time cars that cruise down Auto Row on Van Nuys Boulevard, for their monthly car showcase. This brings a lot of new people into town each month and it surely feels like a carnival has come to town. You can also visit the Los Angeles Valley College Historical Museum, City Art Gallery on Hayvenhurst Ave, Liquid Zoo, and Ireland's 32 for an amazing Irish pub drink and food restaurant. The good thing about living in Van Nuys is that you are both in and outside of Los Angeles. In other words, if you would like to travel to downtown Los Angeles, it is about a thirty minute drive with no traffic. Further, living in Van Nuys gives you the sense of almost living in a suburb outside of downtown Loa Angeles, which creates a nice balance between all the chaos of the city as well as the quietude of what Van Nuys has to offer. If you like to live close to the inner city but far enough to have a certain amount of space Van Nuys is a nice and safe neighborhood to live.
