I’ve lived in Boyle Heights most of my life. It is an older neighborhood but a lot of homes are being remodeled and new apartments being built. The streets are very crowded and narrow. People struggle to find parking around here. The good: Freeways are close by and yes, there i ...Read More
s good food. There is a lot of crime and drug addicts and now homeless are under the overpasses etc. can’t miss graffiti and garbage people leave on the sidewalks. I personally would move out if I could. The only plus I see is being close to downtown if you work there. I wouldn’t raise my children in this neighborhood.

I spent about four years living in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles. While I lived in Boyle Heights one of my favorite things to do was go to when I woke up in the morning was head over to the Arctic Hotspot, a bakery and cafe that services delectable pastries and coffee. It ...Read More
is also my belief that Boyle Heights has some of the best Mexican food in the state. If you are planning to live in Boyle Heights, CA, then you need to check out these restaurants. If I listed all of the good restaurants in town the list would be ten pages long. Lilianas Tamales, La Parrilla Restaurant, and Cinco Puntos are all exceptionally tasty places to dine in.
There is also a lot of great shopping outlets close to the highway. I am not a big shopper myself but my ex girlfriend loved to head down to the boutiques like TBI Apparel. The community is also great and was improving greatly before I relocated from Boyle Heights. They recently remodelled the Breed Street Shul, an old Jewish synagogue, and that is just one example of the community coming together. There is a lot of culture in the area and I have made life-long friends there. That being said, the number one language spoke in Boyle Heights is Spanish. I would not recommend moving to Boyle Heights unless you know conversational Spanish, or that you are at least open to learning some. You will not go a single day in Boyle Heights without speaking to or listening to someone speak Spanish.
There are also a few art galleries that are worth visiting. You can really get a taste of the area when you see the art from its residents. The Patrick McCarthy Art Gallery comes to mind, but there quite a few in the area. There's not a whole lot of nightlife in the area, though. My only other complaint about the area is the crime. Its not the most dangerous place in the world, but I wouldn't go out in any unfamiliar places after dark. Overall its a great place to live, and the experiences will stay with you for a life time.
