The worst place ever 0.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 06, 2019) Laredo is a horrible place to live and the most depressing. The people are rude and ugly and hate everybody and their mama if they don't speak Spanish. Ive never been to a place in America where you had to speak a foreign language. It's like they forgot that Laredo belongs to the ...Read More U.S. I wouldn't recommend anyone to move or visit Laredo. You are better off going to the middle East for a vacation. Read Less
Not a great vacation spot... 0.5 rating By MaidenUSA ( Sep 22, 2014) There isn't a lot going on in this town and wishing that we hadn't booked a week on unreliable information from the tourist bureau. They make it look super clean and beautiful, but it isn't for the most part. I didn't expect to have to know spanish/mexican to order a meal in th ...Read More e hub of downtown, a big shock in an American city. The have many shops that sell the same "imports" from across the border but at a higher price. There are several malls, and these are pretty much the typical American experience, with a big language barrier. I'm not sure how this town rated as high as it did, similar to Plano, Tx - which is incredibly clean and ranks 33/100 on the crime index compared to 9/100, for Laredo, on the same index - with 9/100 being worse for crime. Very disappointing visit. Read Less
Laredo, Texas - Abundant scenic splendor 5 rating By Anonymous ( May 05, 2010) The city of Laredo Texas is known for its abundance of breathtaking natural scenes and wonderful nature. Having many fantastic positive features throughout the city, there is none quite as amazing as the Rio Grande. The river unites this border region and is habitat to some of th ...Read More e most extraordinary creatures. Recently, Laredo TX has become home to a bi-national kayak and canoe competition.

All the natural beauties are at times taken for granted by us, the local residents. In recent times, my sister informed me of her plans to visit Laredo. I remember being excited to see her and immediately planned the itinerary. In doing so I realized just how marvelously breathtaking Laredo, TX can be. The Rio Grande, as I mentioned previously, is home to many wonderful creatures, fabulous views, and events. The Laredo Birding Festival was on the itinerary and a perfect festival for my bird loving sister to attend.

My sister was elated. Every day of the festival began with an outdoor sighting and ended with a seminar. Local and world know photographer assisted in fabulous views and shots of Laredo TX birds such as the White-collared Seedeater, the Green parakeet, the Least Grebe, White-tipped Dove, Groovebilled Ani, and the Green Jay.

In summary, my sister was in awe of the scenic splendors, wonderful wildlife sightings, small town charm, and neighborly attitude of Laredo TX; the all familiar place that I call home. Read Less

Compare Laredo, TX Livability

      vs

      Laredo, TX

Laredo is a border town in Webb County that is home to over 250,000 people. This makes it one of the largest border towns in the entire United States. The area has a rich culture and heritage that is shaped by its geographic location and the natural juxtaposition of cultures on the U.S. and Mexico sides of the border. The area has seen a steady rise in population over the last decade as more people have heard about the strong job market and low prices of homes in the area.

Texas A&M International University is a fine place to get a higher education, and it is one of the area's leading employers for professors and administrative staff. It offers competitive salaries and generous pay and benefit packages to those who are fortunate enough to work there. Laredo College is another option for students who are looking to earn a degree while living in Laredo, Texas. Walmart and Sears offer convenience for those looking to buy groceries or home goods. They also employ a large portion of the city's workforce.

Laredo has a lot of neighborhoods that are highly regarded for the quality of life that they offer to those who live in the area. Dominion Del Mar, The Green Ranch, and Villas San Agustin are some of the more upscale areas of the city that have larger homes with established yards. While the prices for homes of this size are affordable by Texas standards, they may be out of reach of a first-time home buyer. Cheyenne, North Heights, and Oakridge may be a better option for those who are looking for an amazing home while on a more constrained budget.

Lake Casa Blanca International State Park offers amazing boating opportunities for those who are looking to cool down during the oppressive summer days. The lake also has walking trails that are perfect for those who are looking to get out and exercise. The Republic of the Rio Grande Museum is a nice place to learn about the history of the area. You can also learn about the brave men and women who settled the area and built the foundation for what the city has become today.

J W Nixon High School, Raymond & Tirza Martin High School, and Los Obispos Middle School are a few of the area's highest rated schools. Each of these schools offers students a great education. Many of their graduates attend one of the universities that is located in Laredo's city limits.

Laredo has a number of restaurants that should not be missed. El Capataz and Border Foundry Restaurant and Bar offer an interesting twist on classic dishes. Each utilize fresh ingredients grown in nearby communities.
