TERRIBLE CITY "AVOID" 1 rating By lucky linda ( Mar 31, 2018) As a life time resident of Lakewood I must say I am sorely disappointed in this City. The newer City Hall building is nice but look behind it where their are junkies and trash. That's what you find all over the City now. Junkies, panhandlers at every store, teens running aroun ...Read More d trashing property, and when I have called to report activity of this kind I get a rude snotty response. Obviously, no one cares in this City what goes on. Traffic is horrible and getting worse, people are stealing the stores bare.....I just don't see how any business can continue without some kind of change in City Government. I enjoy strolling ...Read More along the sidewalks of the downtown area while watching others window shop or sit together for lunch.

There is a large amount of pride in the school system here, and my children enjoy the teachers who they have had throughout their education. The athletic programs offered are outstanding as the coaches encourage all players to be on the field or the court at some point during the game. The city is full of history as is evidenced by the several museums in the area. The Lakewood Playhouse is a place I went when I first moved here, and I wasn't disappointed. The plays are small in size as it's a local theater, but the actors are amazing. There is a chance that this theater will close if there is not enough support from the community. Stina's Cellars is a place to go if you want to see some of the elegance that the city offers. This is an attraction that gives details of the wine industry in Lakewood. While on the tour, you can taste a variety of wines and learn about where the wines made go after they are bottled. While there aren't as many restaurants that serve large meals that I would like, there are several sports bars that have delicious options. These include my favorite food, hot wings, as well as hamburgers and potato skins. Read Less

The worst building / planning department hypocrisy ever. They are ridiculous. They come across as typical big government with the attitude as they are not public servants or do not work for the people or community. When you call the building department they require you to leave a message rather than be able to talk to a actual person.

That is probably because the road's are so torn up they are hardly fit to drive upon. The population is under 60,000 and there are five lakes in the area, the America ...Read More n Lake, Lake Steilacoom, Gravelly Lake, Lake Louise, and Waughop Lake. These beautiful lakes are surrounded by the natural landscape that the state of Washington is so famous for.

There are quite a few two to four star hotels for your stay. We prefer the Hotel Murano for a number of reasons. There are three dining rooms on the premises, if we don't feel like going into the town, and they are all delicious! This hotel is also convenient to much of Lakewood: The University of Washington, Washington State Museum, Glass Museum, Art Museum, Children's Museum and the Foss Waterway are only a short walk away.

The best features in Lakewood are the beautiful mountain ranges that surround the town. Features like these make it a joy to return to again and again. Read Less
