Knoxville, TN: The Marble City

Knoxville is the third largest city in the state of Tennessee, nestled in the northeast corner closest to the mountains. It was settled in 1791 and incorporated as a city in 1815. Due to being a huge center of marble distribution, the city was nicknamed “The Marble City” in the early 1900s. Additionally, Knoxville has over 170,000 people, making it a wonderful mid-sized city to live in for families and singles alike.

Moving to Knoxville could be one of the best decisions in your life! It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re coming from, Knoxville has a little bit of everything for everyone. If you enjoy the outdoors, then you’ll enjoy visiting the Smoky Mountain National Park, barely a 40 minute drive outside of city limits. Clocking in at over 11 million visitors annually, this park has 2x more visitors than any other National Park in the country! The Knoxville zoo is also one of the largest in the nation, seeing over 400,000 visitors annually, and has been called the Red Panda Capital of the World for its success in breeding and raising them. The city is also home to more than 20 museums and seven historical houses-great for those who enjoy indoor attractions. If you enjoy sports, then go catch a game at the Tennessee Vols Stadium or visit the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame-the only museum in the country devoted to women’s basketball. Visit the Sunsphere or the Tennessee Amphitheater to see the last remaining structures from the 1982 World’s Fair, which was the last successful World Fair held in America.

Knoxville is a lot more than attractions and outdoor adventures, though. You will find wonderful career opportunities, neighborhoods steeped in history, mild winters, wonderful summers, affordable real estate, competitive universities, and a plethora of sporting events. For families, enjoy the high-ranking primary schools and safe neighborhoods. Singles and couples will be amazed with the nightlife, festivals, and pop-up events. Catch a free trolley or one of the many bus lines to travel around Knoxville with ease. While there is no subway line yet, the city does have plans to implement one in the future.
