Not for Kids 2 rating By camjohn00 ( May 18, 2017) I don't write reviews, but I'm looking at places other than Kendall and thought I'd check out what was said. That led to this review. We lived in Kendall for one year and I commuted to downtown Miami for work. I don't recommend that plan. We spent over $150 just in tolls per ...Read More month, and the drive is very long. In the early morning, before 6am, I could get to work in 30 minutes. In the afternoon coming home any time between 3:00pm and 7:00pm it was 1.5 hr to 2 hr. The Kendall area is a little calmer and quieter than Miami proper, which was nice. The housing CAN be nicer, but there are definitely some shady rental complexes and houses. This is not a good place to bring children. There are very limited things for kids to do. Basically for kids you have the zoo, which is great the first 5 times or so, but since that is the only big thing around, it gets old. The everglades are fun, but the kids get tired of that pretty quickly as well. The restaurants are really great for Cuban food, which we liked. You should expect to speak Spanish if you want to live in Kendall. My wife is very good with languages and I'm not bad either, so we survived. She got very comfortable with the language of necessity. Don't expect to go grocery shopping or even to Walmart really unless you can speak at least some basic Spanish. Americans are the foreigners in Kendall, which we didn't mind too much because we're used to that somewhat and enjoy learning languages and cultures. However, if that's not your thing, this is not for you. Schools are scary. We home schooled, which is very unusual for us, but we feared for our children's safety and mostly their learning. We had daily Spanish class for our kids, which was a good experience for them. The weather is Florida weather, humid and hot, but sunny mostly. It rains nearly every day in the summer months for a couple hours then clears up completely. The "winter" months are pretty nice, but few in number. The redland farm area is near by and is pretty cool. It's a reminder of what Florida was back in it's agricultural days before it was over run with hoards of people. They have some really neat things down there.The crime is what you would expect from a city of this size near Miami, it's definitely there. We rarely felt unsafe, but identity theft is a HUGE problem in Florida. A zip code near Kendall was the highest identity fraud per capita in the country when we were there. Get Life Lock or something before you move there and just be smart.We met some amazing people there, with whom we became great friends. Most were from South America. We still miss them. Read Less

The experience, unlike most in the area, was surprisingly pl ...Read More easant. I only wish I had more time to spend in Kendall. Although there is very little by way of night life there are some very pleasant and delicious restaurants.

Even though work kept me busy for most of my stay I did have the opportunity visit the Metrozoo. This Kendall attraction is massive and I would have loved to spend more time there. It is an amazing place to visit and great for a family outing. It does take more than one day to fully explore. They have over 300 acres of zoological park and many attractions for animal lovers. It is only a short drive from Kendall.

With several wild life attractions and an amazing array of excellent food, I can't wait to be sent back into the area. There is easy access to many of Miami's best attractions and several wonderful places to stay outside of the full hustle and bustle of Miami proper. Read Less
