Turn for Worse - Dangerous for Whites, Blacks as Well but Less

I returned here after 30 years of being away. I am appalled at what has happened to Westchase. It is not that is has gone from being soft, developed with the hope of goodness to all black, but that the black people's tension can be cut with a knife. If you are white, do not come here. I walk my pit bull who is 80 lbs, and I am afraid. The people look at me like they want to raid my guts.I visited the townhouse I lived in before in Riversone 2, certainly we would not have cared if blacks were there, but there were 10 black people gathering around me with clearly threatening intentions in the middle of the day.Jeez, what happened to Houston that it is so segregated? I promise you that Westchase has the feel of south central Los Angeles right before the riots, has huge attitude. If you are white, run as far away from Westchase as you can, these people will hit you over the head if you say hello ... my only savior is my dog. These people are black racsists with an axe to grind. Be very careful. This is a hugely unsafe part of Houston to show your head in, "whitey," These black people can kiss my white ass until they learn to live with all, they are worse than white bigots.Westchase is DANGEROUS. Even if black, I would not ever move back here. My poor prior lovely townhome has a very bad aura.

Westchase Is Still New All Over Again!!!

We live in Westchase, Houston Texas, and I have watched Westchase grow from quiet neighborhood with towering pines, to a metropolis of sorts. With the addition of the Sam Houston Toll Road system, this is about what we expected, but way nicer. It did slice the neighborhood in half, but they breached it quite well because we still can get to old Memorial without traffic. Not everything we dreaded happened. We still have all our nice shops, but now they are combined with the right mix of more contemporary chain brands. I like being able to get clothing from the outlets and have them tailored at the same small shops as always.

We still have close access to a LA Madeleine's bakery. Since we border Interstate 10, we can still get over to Ikea's pretty quickly. Sometimes, we go just for lunch and catch Memorial City mall on the way home. Our favorite Popeye's Chicken has not changed, although, there is one closer to the house now. Our favorite Mexican restaurant Fandango's is north of Westchase on Westheimer. Tinseltown movie theatre is easier to get to via the toll way system. We still take Memorial up to the Galleria area to the Bombay Brassiere and the Lockhart Barbecue.

What is important is that the spirit of the neighborhood was respected. The neighborhood was not changed it was modernized. The tall pines that defined the neighborhood were made into accents that breakup the newly concreted businesses. The access between the old and the newer areas are blurred, and there was an effort to incorporate an entire neighborhood renovation. Westchase was beginning to become a drive through neighborhood with no real definition. Houston is growing in leaps and bounds. We are lucky to have preserved so much of what makes our neighborhood great while having new infrastructure in place to manage further growth. When neighborhoods change this fast, it is easy to lose the personality and the history of areas like Westchase. That history is the experiences that our families were raised in, and we fought to keep it. From the looks of things, it looks like we won.
