Garland is a city in Dallas county Texas, it is located just northeast of Dallas and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Named for US Attorney General Augustus Garland, the city was founded in 1874. The city is home to the Resistol Hat Company, manufacturers of quality men's hats since 1927. The city houses the Landmark Museum, which is housed within the old Sante Fe train depot. The museum holds historical artifacts from the time before the city was founded to present day. In 1927, a tornado destroyed much of the city and killed 17 people, to include then Mayor S.E. Nicholson. To honor him, the city built the Nicholson Memorial Public Library.

Oakridge

Situated just north-east of downtown Garland is the neighborhood of Oakridge. Oakridge boasts 3 beautiful parks and the Holford Recreation Center, which has space for parties and indoor sports. Oakridge is home to the Duck Creek Golf Course, an 18 hole course overlooking Duck Creek.
