Garland is a city in Dallas county Texas, it is located just northeast of Dallas and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Named for US Attorney General Augustus Garland, the city was founded in 1874. The city is home to the Resistol Hat Company, manufacturers of quality men's hats since 1927. The city houses the Landmark Museum, which is housed within the old Sante Fe train depot. The museum holds historical artifacts from the time before the city was founded to present day. In 1927, a tornado destroyed much of the city and killed 17 people, to include then Mayor S.E. Nicholson. To honor him, the city built the Nicholson Memorial Public Library.

Oakridge

Situated just north-east of downtown Garland is the neighborhood of Oakridge. Oakridge boasts 3 beautiful parks and the Holford Recreation Center, which has space for parties and indoor sports. Oakridge is home to the Duck Creek Golf Course, an 18 hole course overlooking Duck Creek. Springpark

Springpark lies north-east of Garland and boasts many cultural amenities. In Springpark can be found the Charles W. Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts. The Center hosts musical performers from around the world as well as plays, operas and corporate events. Parks in the area are spacious and have playgrounds for kids, two that are close by are Crowley Park and Lookout Park. Also close by is Sherrill Park Golf Course, which was ranked #1 on the Texas Golf Report by The Dallas Morning News in 2012. Springpark lies just west of the President George Bush Turnpike and is about 15 minute drive to downtown Garland.
