Area Vibes often gives high scores for shopping in cities with lots of 7-11s. Gardena is a true shoppers paradise has a lots of quality stores. South Bay Galleria (mall) is fifteen minutes away and so is Mitsuwa (Japaense grocery store). Carson Mall and the Torrance Swap Meet ...Read More
(Roadium) is also fifteen minutes away. However, less then ten minutes away we have three more Japanese grocery stores, Gardena Supermarket (large Hispanic grocery store), and 99 Ranch (large Chinese grocery store). Also less than ten minutes away is Target, Walmart, Kmart, Vons, Albertson, and Ralphs. There are three 99 cent stores less than ten minutes away with one being a Japanese 99 cent store Daiso. Restaurants are excellent and are all less than ten minutes away including, Mexican, American, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Italian, and several good places to get steak and prime rib. The only thing that is lacking a decent Chinese dim sum place. Mostly Chinese take out with one or two Chinese "restaurants". I catch the bus to work and the park and ride has plenty of parking that is free. This is not a bar town or a dance club city. The high school sucks and there is lots of crime. It's a very livable city even family friendly, but if I had kids, I would apply to have my kids transferred to the Torrance School District which is very close by.

I grew up in Gardena, California. I guess I would have to say that after college I never came back to area unless to visit. When I think of the community of Gardena, I think of lots and lots of people and traffic. It really doesn't leave a very inviting picture. I guess you could ...Read More
say it is almost an international area with lots of different ethnic groups coming together.
It does have great weather though and the housing is a little more reasonable then most areas in Southern California. There is lots of shopping close by and several attractions if you enjoy amusement parks. Of course Los Angeles is close by, but most people stay in the area.
The Southern California beaches are some of the best and I got to spend a lot of time sailing and boating at Seal beach which is very close. I am glad I got to grow up in this area and spend time in the Southern California area, but now that I am living in another state in a rural community, I have to say, I would not like to go back to this area. Of course every community has its good and bad points and most people who live in this area love it. It really is just a matter of personal choice.
