If you don’t know Anywhere else- User Rating 2 rating By Anonymous ( May 06, 2022) This might seem to be a great area. The most property tax I have paid across America and the littlest return. The schools supposedly get the $$, not really. Schools seem to be doing what they can without the city or county to help the development and little support. The area i ...Read More s not well managed at all by the county or city government and seems typically influenced by villagers who oppose new comers, but developers wants are passed without further planning. Most people exercise along a highway called Longleaf Pine pkwy because it has good distance but not developed to support wellness or a healthy (use your feet) lifestyle. Stoplights came into use about 1915, but in St Johns county they use many people to bring the roads to a halt during school hours due to poor road design and lack or no future planning. The local villagers are easily insulted by any suggestion of improvement. there are no large fun playground multi-use parks, no public recreational facilities, and again poor road design. Veterans park is mostly a privatized soccer park with a few extras. Everything is Privatized: neighborhoods don’t connect, playgrounds, pools, gyms, recreational or hobby classes (barely exist). You will pay the Privatized tax(CDD) if you want walking pathways in your neighborhood on top of the already high property tax. The roads are dangerous and expect frequent collisions on the dangerous roads especially Greenbriar/210. Many things are at least a 30+ minute round trip. I think the schools care and are doing what they can, but they have been shouldered with the burden from the over marketing and hype of the district. My kids have been to schools probably better and not overhyped like they are here.
America has many interesting neighborhoods this area is definitely lacking.
In addition, this is first area I have blatantly heard kids and adults use racial slurs freely. My kids have told me what classmates have said why it’s ok to say some slurs since there are not many minorities in area anyways :(.
Maybe if you are retiring area might work for you. I am not sure what seems family oriented or friendly about this area. Read Less
Fruit Cove, FL - City Review User Rating 4 rating By Anonymous ( May 14, 2018) Fruit Cove is a small town in Florida that you would miss if you blinked while driving through. However, I have lived here for about two years and enjoy each minute of being in the small town. There are few houses, making it a town that's easy to walk through during the day and i ...Read More n the evening. It's a safe town to live in compared to other cities I've lived in before. There are many evenings when I will walk on the sidewalks and stop to chat with some of the people sitting on their front porches.

Since it's a small town close to Jacksonville, there aren't many attractions or even restaurants, but Jacksonville is close enough so that you can easily drive a few miles to do things with the family or by yourself. Mandarin Park is my favorite place to go when I want to walk on trails or see the ducks in the small pond. There are also a few shelters where you can have a picnic. The Mandarin Museum is another favorite in Fruit Cove. It features a lot of antiques and items that tell about the history of the town and Florida. Read Less
