Fresno-High Neighborhood Experience from a Young Fresnan User Rating 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 10, 2014) I lived in Fresno-High neighborhood, for the first 28 years of my life. I attended Fresno High and Fresno City College before transferring out of town.

The Fresno-High is a colorful neighborhood with many highs and a few big lows. It's not a bad choice for a family with kids. T

Housing costs are reasonable, and there are a lot of older homes in the neighborhood. If you love the old Craftsman or bungalow-style homes, this is your place. A lot of the local businesses are also located in older buildings, helping the neighborhood retain part of its charm.

The Fresno-High neighborhood is walkable, which makes it unique in Fresno. Most places in town require a car to get around, but I could walk to school, grab a bite to eat, and do most of my shopping on foot. It was very convenient, especially when I didn't own a car.

On the smaller streets traffic isn't bad, but the neighborhood is bordered by four of the busiest streets in the city. There's Palm Ave to the south, Blackstone Ave to the north, and Olive and McKinley to the east and west respectively. Traffic can be dangerous along these streets, so keep an eye on your little kids and pets.

The Fresno-High neighborhood also includes the Tower District, which is still considered Fresno's center of art and culture. There are several theater venues in the area. If you like live shows, the Good Company Players and Rodger Rocka's Dinner Theater are good choices. The historic Tower Theater on the corner of Wishon and Olive also hosts a variety of different shows, from old movies to smaller life concerts. A lot of the shops in the neighborhood are locally owned, with the exception of a few chains.

The biggest downside of the neighborhood is the crime rate. It's a not-so-great part of town, and it seems like there's a lot of theft and vandalism. I was never a target, but I'm not sure if that's because I was smart or because I was lucky.

It is a big problem, but you have to weigh the risks for yourself. Read Less
