What Fremont Nebraska is like. User Rating 2 rating By user1984 ( May 31, 2016) I would suggest Fremont Nebraska for a family or retirees but not for young people, singles or couples. There is literally nothing to do here, only one good state park near where people go to camp and fish, a keno hall and a couple of bowling alleys. I personally do not at a ...Read More ll like the vibe you get from the community here. I've never in my life experienced so much rudeness. If you have long hair as a guy, or tattoos or piercings you might as well accept you will be treated badly and gets scoffs. I made the mistake of bringing a man with long hair and arm tattoos (which is now my husband) and they treat him terribly. In the 2 years he's lived here we have had at least 4 encounters where people make rude remarks about his hair. Aside from that it seems like there are a lot of unhappy people here. Most smiles or greetings are very obviously forced. Shopping is terrible for several reasons. They are understocked and overpicked because there isn't much shopping for the population ratio. And seems as a woman, clothing is either teens elderly or soccer mom style no matter where you go, even in the Walmart. There is no in between. Walmart which is by the way the only department store besides a really bad Gordmans connected to the mall. The mall they have is a joke, it's more like a strip mall, it contains about 10 shops which are not even good ones, one of which is the only movie theater in town and it is also not very good. Fast food is all over, but some of the worst I have ever visited. Sometimes I admit I wonder if it is that way with stores and restaraunts here because they know people's options are limited. There are very few sit down restaraunts and the ones there are mostly not very good food or service. Nightlife is near non existant unless you enjoy country music or tight spaces with regulars. I've been to nearly all the bars in town and all besides one is this way. Downtown isn't much more than a 3x4 block area with local antique and thrift shops, couple of bars, furniture shops, banks, real estate office and a courthouse. The entire city is surrounded by corn fields but, if you dont mind the drive its about 45 minutes from Omaha where there is better shopping restaraunts and night life. But I must note, that Omaha isn't a very safe place. And unfortunately it tacks on about an extra 2 hours of driving to do anything, which over time becomes such a nuisance. Speaking of safety, I'll say the one great thing about Fremont Nebraska is it is safe. When I was single that was the one reason I stayed there. It's probably just about the safest place I've ever even been. Another plus is the rent is affordable and there are a lot of beautiful homes structurally. Mostly very well kept and decorated lawns and homes. Overall I can say if you are looking for small town living, affordable and safe to raise children then Fremont could be the place for you. I realize this is a pretty negative review, but it is my most honest. I do not take this lightly, I've lived there 5 years, and have moved around and seen a lot of different places to compare.
