Freeport, Illinois is a quaint rural city located just a few hours outside of Chicago and only an hour or so away from Iowa. Freeport is more of a rural community and thus isn't very big on nightlife or shopping. The qualities of Freeport, however, are found in the less expensive housing market with much cheaper property taxes than what you would find in the immediate Chicago area. Freeport is a tightly-knit community with annual festivals and plenty of things to do year-round, but especially in the summer. It is worth noting that Freeport has had a recent increase in petty crime, however the local police are doing the best they can to subdue this increase as quickly as possible.
The weather in the Freeport area is comparable to the rest of the Midwest with cold and snowy winters and hot/humid summers. Of course, the most pleasant season is autumn with the beautifully colored trees and the harvests of local farms that help keep the town's economy alive.
