Combined these cities, often called Paso del Norte, also makes the largest bilingual and binational work force in the Western Hemisphere. El Paso is the county seat of El Paso County.

More than 70 Fortune 500 companies call this city home. Seven of the top 10 businesses in El Paso are call centers. Over 135,000 people directly or indirectly work for Fort Bliss. This large military base covers more ground than the state of Rhode Island. Additionally, many people living in El Paso work at more than 300 factories located in Juarez with most of these factories organized under Mexico’s Maquiladora Program.
