Living in Douglas, GA will give you city convenience without being right on top of the bigger cities. Douglas is about 2 1/2 hours from Savannah, GA; a little over 3 hours from Atlanta, GA; and a little over 2 hours from Jacksonville, FL.
Some of the shops have been repurposed for new businesses as they often are every few years, while others are empty and abandoned for the time being. The buildings that haven’t been renovated in a while have somewhat smoky glass that isn’t quite dirty, but could use a wipe down.
It looks good when there’s just one hopeful storefront that someone could buy, but other towns have entire streets full of abandoned buildings that are scary—especially at night—or at least a bit depressing.
The downtown area is both a comfortable taste of old Southern social living and what happens with industrial and commercial change, but much of the city is bursting with innovation.
New businesses, beautiful houses, and replenished parks have greatly enhanced the scenery. The best areas in Douglas are downtown along Peterson Avenue and Madison Avenue where amazing grills, bakeries, pizzerias, sushi restaurants, and other great eateries are ready to deliver amazing flavors.
