Dormont has it all: Walkability, public transit, and culture. User Rating 5 rating By Jogabelle ( Nov 03, 2017) We recently moved to Dormont after living in the East End of the city --Friendship, Bloomfield, Lawrenceville, Morningside-- for over a decade. Although the East End is hyped as being the "hot" place to be, I find that Dormont has everything we want in a neighborhood with the add ...Read More ed benefit of actual affordability. We really love it here! Although hilly, Dormont is incredibly walkable. It takes approximately 10 minutes to get downtown on the T. We have Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, Bosnian, and Indian food; fantastic diners; a historic movie theater; an independent bookstore; a 60,000 sq ft swimming pool; a wooden castle playground; a metaphysical store; a grocery store that sells Middle Eastern and Eastern European food (feels like you're in the Strip District); a Buddhist temple and many churches; a library; a post office; many pizza shops and hair salons; a record store; a coffee shop, bars...etc. Yes, my list is long and drawn out... Basically, Dormont has it all! The historic houses here have tons of unique architectural features like gorgeous stained glass windows, transom windows, and big porches with fancy millwork. The community appears to care a great deal, we feel safe, and our neighbors are very friendly and down-to-earth. Dormont feels authentically "Pittsburgh," even though we're not even in the actual city limits. Dormont is a great place for kids. The borough offers lots of fun family friendly events year round. The only con is the insane amount of traffic and lack of parking in certain areas. If you're looking for a walkable and transit friendly neighborhood with actual culture, Dormont is the place to be.
