Southwestern Denver - Great Weather and Scenery 4 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 19, 2012) I have lived in the Lakewood community in Southwestern Denver, Denver Colorado, for almost two years. We relocated to Southwestern Denver from Ohio. I am enjoying living here. The people are a little hard to get to know, but we are slowly making friends and acquaintances.

The c ...Read More ommute into downtown Denver, where both my husband I are employed, is quick and easy via US Highway 6 and Interstate 25. That is a real plus for us. We enjoy a suburban lifestyle with the convenience and culture of a larger city. Lakewood is a growing, thriving area, and may possibly soon be the most populous suburb of Denver. Even so, there are some really quiet corners to relax in. We found a condo to rent that is "off the beaten path" with a serene view from the back deck. We are still waiting for our home to sell back in Ohio. Of course we have been looking and drooling, hoping we can close on our house there soon. I love the Alameda area. I have seen some lovely, spacious homes listed in the mid $100,000 range to low $300,000. There are also great condos available that are surprisingly affordable, around $200,000 for two bedrooms, two baths. This area is close to two parks- Lakewood Park and Belmar Park. Lakewood Park is huge, with loads of family oriented recreation available. It's the place to be on a crisp, Autumn weekend, or the Fourth of July. Belmar Park has lots of great trails for hiking and biking.

The two best things about this area for me so far is the weather and the scenery. The humidity that we sometimes experienced back in Ohio is not missed here! It does get cold in the winter, but it's just so beautiful, it's hard to complain. The arid climate makes the cold seem not so terrible. We plan to take up skiing this winter. Loveland Ski Resort is less than an hour away.

There is plenty of recreation here in Southwestern Colorado. I love just going for a drive up to nearby Green Mountain and looking at the spectacular views. It is crowded on weekends, though. We like to pick a late afternoon during the week for our cruise, stopping to eat at a restaurant back in Lakewood before going home. Lakewood has no lack of good places to dine out. White Fence Farm is my favorite. I grew up in the country, and I love their fried chicken.

We don't have children yet, but I do know that Colorado allows kids to pick and choose a school out of their neighborhood. The schools here seem to get mixed reviews. Like anywhere, some seem to be better than others.

The beauty, great economy, recreation and good housing options will keep us in Southwestern Denver for a long time! Read Less
