Cozy Community in a Great Location User Rating 5 rating By Anonymous ( Feb 07, 2021) I love Carson City. This is such a nice community with an amazing history and unique geographical setting that is so perfect for outdoor recreation adventures. The Sierra Mountain peaks dominate the city skyline, it is a breathtaking view. Mountain ranges ring the city and the ...Read More y are full of dirt roads, trails, canyons..so much to explore. I love that Carson City has such an extensive network of trails all over town to hike and bike, most can be enjoyed with your dogs off-leash. You can hike in the forest of the Sierra along mountain streams or lakes or you can bike down by the river under the towering cottonwood trees. I love that most residents are friendly, relaxed and positive towards each other..and we solve issues together as a community. The city leadership is very professional and respectful of residents. They really care about us and our quality of life. Residents of Carson City will often see deer throughout the city and wild horses on the hillsides, so much wildlife to view here. Many residents have lived here most of their lives or have retired here from California or New York. The school system is very responsive to parents and safe for the children. Carson City has an amazing history and since it is the state capitol of Nevada there are museums and other attractions to celebrate and learn about the history of this area as well as a stable employment and career path with many government offices. Another great aspect of Carson City is the location to other great destinations such as 1/2 hour to Lake Tahoe or Reno or Virginia City. The climate here is a moderate four-seasons with abundant sunshine all year. One other factor I enjoy is a lack of certain insects such as fleas and ticks. They are not a big problem for pets or outdoor enthusiasts. This is a great community! Read Less
Historical Interest, Small Size, Outdoor Adventure Paradise User Rating 5 rating By Anonymous ( Feb 06, 2021) Such a great location in a high-desert valley next to the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountain range. Perfect smaller size in population balanced with an array of great amenities. Good traffic flow and city services. 15 - 30 minutes to Reno, Lake Tahoe or Virginia City. Alpine la ...Read More kes and rivers, plus desert valley lakes and rivers for outdoor adventures and activities. Federal land all about the city with dirt roads and trail systems for hiking, mountain biking, off-road vehicles. Residents are happy and friendly and respectful to each other, many have lived here for most of their lives or moved from California to retire. The city has really nice leadership, they are respectful and professional. Schools are good. The city is law and order, very well-run. Residents will see deer and/or wild horses and other wildlife in many neighborhoods or on the hillsides. Nice four season weather without extremes for the most part. I love all the hiking and biking trails around town, most are dog-friendly and full off wildlife, amazing views and varied terrain. Read Less
Carson City: Wind blows through it! User Rating 1.5 rating By Anonymous ( Dec 18, 2018) I lived here formally, and I can honestly say I am so glad I moved out. Job prospects are limited, there is a pitiful night life that’s limited to bars and casinos, and it is just a drab, high desert valley overall. You may find a community of friends, if you have the right con ...Read More nections, but the shear lack of culture and things to do is horrendous. The weather is windy and cold for most months of the year, and even the decent hiking and location to Lake Tahoe cannot warrant a recommendation. But if low paying wages, limited eateries, and a boring night life sound like great amenities in a place to live, Carson City is a prime destination!!!!! Read Less
Carson City, NV - A Smaller City Near the "Biggest Little CIty on Earth". User Rating 4 rating By Anonymous ( Apr 23, 2012) After deciding on doing my initial flight training at a certified flight school in Carson City, Nevada, I loaded up my car and headed off for parts unknown. Upon arriving in Carson City I was a bit concerned. Here I was, a California boy in the high desert of northern Nevada, a f ...Read More ish out of water. After spending considerable time in the area, I realized Carson City is a nice little town to hang your hat.

Carson City is approximately 45 minutes to the east of the larger city of Reno, and the Californian Lake Tahoe region. This proximity makes Carson City an outdoors enthusiasts paradise. Within an hours drive in any direction, outdoor-folks have access to deserts parks for rock climbing, world class rivers for fly fishing or river rafting, cross-country and downhill skiing, mountaineering, camping and hiking.

Urban dwellers have access to Reno which has every type of store and boutique you could want. Everything from upscale Lousi Vuitton to Target and Wal-Mart are within an easy drive of Carson City, mostly to the west in Reno.

Carson City offers much in the way of government services for its residents as it is the state capitol of Nevada. In addition, Carson City is an affordable and easily accessed city. Couple in the fact that there is no state income or sales tax in Nevada and you get a very good economic climate for living and working.

Expect high desert weather; hot temperatures in summer and dry, cold winters. Carson City is a four season city that offers residents many activities and opportunities for fun. Read Less

Carson City - The Jewel of The Sierras User Rating 4 rating By Anonymous ( May 25, 2010) Carson City, Nevada is one of my favorite cities to visit. Gambling is present in Carson City but it is not the main focus. The city is very family oriented and clean compared to other Nevada cities. Carson is full of beautiful parks and it is very green. Also the areas and attractions do not overwhelm your senses and there seems to be a good balance of old and new. Carson City has a marvelous train museum. This year I finally took my son to see it. We are both train fanatics and love riding old trains. We spent the whole day watching their model trains. The day at the train museum made our stay. Read Less
