We have recently moved to Cadillac from SW MI. We bought our retirement home on the outskirts of town in a lovely neighborhood off HWY 55. Although we're new full time residents, we've spent our summer months here (we're retired school employees) since 2011, when we bought a dif ...Read More
ferent house close to Lake Mitchell for the purpose of being in the beautiful north country, convenient to lakes and "decent" shopping.
I've read only poor reviews of this northern city, and felt compelled to give my viewpoint. First of all, ALL the people we have met so far have been super friendly, helpful, and welcoming. It is true that we have met few minorities - more Asian than African-American, I can't say I believe any of the folks I've met would be racially biased.
There are SO many churches, it was hard to decide which to join, or attend regularly.
The parks are numerous and gorgeous, with miles of walking/hiking options.
The downtown offers many various types of stores, pubs and restaurants.
The shopping area where the larger stores are, have everything one needs, however is lacking in "high-end" type shopping,
The roads are all well-maintained.
The library is well-stocked and accommodating.
There is a very nice Senior Center right by Lake Cadillac.
The Arts are highly celebrated.
On the east end of Lake Cadillac is a great outdoor amphitheater where a variety of musical entertainment all through the summer/early fall, with plenty of seating or room to set a chair or spread of blankets.
Within the city limits, there are some old, dilapidated houses and neighborhoods. We have read of drug issues. I wouldn't want to live within the city limits...but as an area, my husband and I love it here! Come for a visit, move here for a lifetime of beauty and friendly people.

What can I say? I wouldn't recommend Cadillac, Michigan to my worst enemy as a place to live or even to visit briefly. After living in Cadillac for two years I had to get out while I still could. The amount of crime in Cadillac is a living nightmare. You are literally taking your ...Read More
life in your hands every time you step out your front door. The entire place was bad, but unfortunately, the neighborhood I live in was one of the worst areas for a crime violent crime overall. What would I say was the best area in Cadillac? Any road that led out of the place! It's sad when there is literally nothing redeeming about a town, but that is the situation in Cadillac.
While I was stuck there I managed to find a few things to do for fun and entertainment. There is Adventure Island Family Fun Park, Interlochen State Park, Painting and Vine where you can create artwork while enjoying a glass of wine, the Pines Sports Bar & Bowling Center, and Hot Traxx DJs for some karaoke. If you can bypass Cadillac, Michigan in your travels, I strongly advise you to do so.
