Truly awful place to live and work. 0.5 rating By J&A ( Sep 08, 2018) I have been living in Shreveport-Bossier since 2001. My husband and I were both born in Europe, and half raised there, half in America.I can honestly say with true world perspective this is the worst place I have ever lived in my entire life, and we have been desperately counting ...Read More down the days until we finally leave this nightmare. Crime is unimaginable- there are literally at least 2 shootings every single day, and you don't go more than a few miles before seeing a business, car, or home that's been robbed or defaced. More than a few times my husband and I have been hustled or hassled by someone on the streets, in parking lots while grocery shopping, and even in the malls. My main, most aggravating hatred for this place is the rampant racism from BOTH sides. My husband and I are an interracial couple and get no end of filthy looks, unequal treatment in restaurants and stores, and many other issues simply based on skin. Caucasian people in the Shreveport-Bossier area seem to have been bred to hate, and racial slurs fly without anyone batting an eye. African-American people harbor the same hostility and hatred, and I've seen the exact same actions from the African-American community as I have from the Caucasian. If you are African-American, expect to be followed and watched in every store, and very nearly avoided in restaurants. If you are Caucasian, prepare for local Caucasians to be offended when you don't join their bullying of other races, and to have other races assume you are a bigot and treat you as such. No one is right, and it makes this a hot, hostile cesspool of hatred and bigotry that shows absolutely zero chance of ever improving. Assuming you can abide that, there are a myriad of nightlife opportunities. Bars, clubs, and casinos abound throughout both cities. My husband and I agree; if you're over 21 this is a marvelous place to live if you're just looking to party every night. Family-friendly events or business are in short and dying supply, however. Parades and celebrations are dangerous to take children to, especially nearer the evening and night. Every single year someone has been shot, stabbed, or otherwise murdered during the Mardi Gras celebrations. I have personally known at least 3 children who have been injured by unruly drunks (typically a perfect stranger), and police who make no effort to control such a "minor dispute". Dining is hit or miss, there are some really great dining opportunities, but over the past few years more and more restaurants have been closing. Granted, a new restaurant will take its place, but most only last a few months before closing. Overall, I would highly recommend AGAINST living here, especially if you want to find meaningful employment and raise a family safely. The school systems are basically walled-in mini versions of the city, and I can promise you that if your child isn't a bully, they will be violently physically bullied, and no one in the staff or faculty will help them. Visit, enjoy your party, but come guarded and in a group you trust, and go home. Read Less
Bossier City, LA - Big City Small Town Life 4 rating By Anonymous ( Jan 30, 2012) I have lived in Bossier City, LA for twenty five years. We moved there from Beaumont, Texas when I was young. I love the small town feel that this big city offers. There are so many things to do in Bossier City a couple of my favorites are going to the Board Walk to shop and gamb ...Read More ling at the casinos. The Board Walk is filled with a ton of major outlet stores like The Dress Barn, Kitchen Collections, The Children's Place and Gap Outlet just to name a few. You'll also find great food there like Fuddruckers, Joe's Crab Shack and IHOP. The Bass Pro Shop is right next door which offers not only great shopping but fun activities for the whole family. Though the traffic can often be thick it's worth it for all that the city offers.

There are a great many casinos that you can visit such as the Horseshoe, Sam's Town and the El Dorado. The food that they offer at these casinos is really great. You can also enjoy fishing and hunting around the area with it being so close to the river. Bossier City also offers a vast variety of festivals and you can also enjoy the symphony, theatre or a concert. There is always something to do in Bossier City so you won't get bored. The city also offers a great choice in dining such as Anthony's Steak and Seafood where you can get the best steak you've ever had and enjoy it in a great environment. The Noble Savage Tavern is a great place to for a great burger, the latest local music artist and good beer. Bossier City has a lot to offer to all of its citizens and visitors.
