I lived in Bellevue, NE for five years while I attended Bellevue University. We rented a house off of Galvin Road, which is located in the original part of the city. I really enjoyed living in Bellevue. There is an air force base that is located in the city, so many of my neighbo ...Read More
rs were military families. This meant that there were a lot of rental homes in the area and a large turnover of families coming and going. Despite this fact, I always felt like our neighborhood was a tight knit community.
I had two young children at the time and there were many local activities for them to do. We would frequently take the kids for walks in Fotenelle Forest, the local nature reserve, or drive a few miles down the street to go to The Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. Bellevue also has a movie theater, bowling alley, roller skating rink, swimming pool, and billiards hall. In the summer the air force base would have a big air show and we could sit in our back yard and watch some really cool jets fly over. To be honest, we got used to seeing jets fly over our house the rest of the year as well, but sometimes they were too noisy. In the fall, our favorite family tradition was going to Bellevue Berry Farm to go for a hayrack ride and pick out our pumpkins.
There are a lot of different restaurants and shopping areas in Bellevue. If you drive down Galvin Road, Cornhusker Road, or Highway 370 you should be able to find just about any big retail store, fast food chain, or restaurant. If you can't find what you want in Bellevue it was only a seven minute drive to Omaha, NE.
