Buckhead: Atlanta's Very Own Rodeo Drive User Rating 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 06, 2014) After moving to Atlanta, GA from Burbank, CA, we wanted an area that had the same metropolitan hippy-cool vibe that we had been accustomed to. We found it in Buckhead, a wealthy area of Atlanta, GA, bordering the Cumberland and Vinings area in neighboring Cobb County, heading no ...Read More rthwest, Sandy Springs towards the north, and Midtown/West Midtown Atlanta heading southwest.

Buckhead has several things that make it desirable, but one in particular is how relatively low in crime it is, compared to Atlanta in general. The crime index is 59 percent lower than the Atlanta average, and is safer than 93% percent of all the ATL's neighborhoods put together. The estimated chance of being a victim of a crime is 1 in 30, which makes the area a relatively safe one to walk around during evening hours.

In terms of shopping, the two chief resources are the Lenox Square Mall, located off of Peachtree Road NE, or Phipps Plaza, conveniently located just off the intersection of Peachtree and Lenox Roads. Both of these have both major department stores as well as dozens of specialty shops to frequent. For me, having a Louis Vuitton shop to frequent, along with Saks Fifth Avenue and Banana Republic make these two malls well worth spending my time and money there.

Entertainment options abound, such as comedy clubs, bars and several funky little coffee houses to choose from. For movie fans, an AMC theatre can be found conveniently inside of the Phipps Plaza. For those that choose to venture further downtown to enjoy themselves, they can find the CNN Center, New World of Coca-Cola, the Fox Theatre and the Georgia Aquarium located relatively close by.

In terms of dining choices, the opportunities are vast. There are roughly 20 different dining choices, all located within Buckhead proper. These range from dressier establishments such as Chops Steakhouse to something a bit more casual, such as Taco Mac Sports Grill. For those that enjoy their coffee, there are total of seven of them to frequent, including Joe Muggs, Starbucks and Peet's Coffee and Tea.

The cost of living in Buckhead could be the only sore point in an otherwise enjoyable Atlanta region. It is in excess of 49 percent greater than the Atlanta area and 44 percent greater than the national average. Apartments in Buckhead range from approximately $900.00, for a 1-2 bedroom unit, on up to around $1200.00 for the same size. It just depends on where the complex is located. Closer to Lenox and Phipps Plaza, and one can expect to pay a bit more. If you are willing to move towards the outer boundaries, the prices may go down a bit, but not by much.

While the cost of living in Buckhead may be great, it makes up for it with the sheer amount of cultural opportunities all within close proximity to each other. Read Less
