      Grew up there.

I grew up there. It was a nice town back in the 70's. When I go back to visit it is just sad. They have lost most of their former industries. If you want your child to have any chance of being educated you have to send them to the local private school which has gotten much smaller from people having to moving away for job opportunities. The side walks are a crumbling mess so watch where you step if you decide to take a walk. I follow the local newspaper online and they seem to have at least one murder per month. It is still a nice place to visit on occasion but you don't want to live there.

Wish I could sell my business for what I paid for it in 1992! Public schools here are awful , jobs don't exist, and theft happens far too often! Where do they waste all of the money meant for law enforcement? Phoebe has destroyed health care, and welfare recipients are piled up on top of one-another. There are no places for youth to enjoy themselves, probably because of the class of people who show up when something nice comes along.we used to have a movie theater, but it was overrun by thugs and gang member wantabes. I moved to Lee county to escape! Wish I could move my properties too! Taxes are much more affordable in Lee county. I'm not racist, but this problem is most definitely caused by racism ,mostly reverse racism!

Americus, Modern Thinking And Classic Architecture Brought Together

Americus is like living in an Austrian castle town and a southern textile boom town at the same time. The beautiful buildings, the regal culture, and the great food come together to make a splendid part of Georgia.

Living in Americus, GA means being able to embrace a city wrapped and touched in forestry and farmland while sprawling out into a beacon of culture and beauty. Georgia Southwestern State University attracts national and international minds to this beautiful part of the country, and this part of the South has grown because of that diverse touch.

The best areas in Americus are around GSU and in the north side of town, where a lot of beautiful restaurants, stores, and international visitor-friendly hotels built in delightfully graceful 19th-century architectural styles.

Americus is its own city with its own attractions, but it's not too far from other major parts of Georgia. Columbus is a little over an hour away to the northwest, Savannah is a bit under 3 1/2 hours away, and Atlanta is under 2 1/2 hours away.
