Albert Lea, Minnesota is a smaller city located just a few hours south of Minneapolis. The town is a relatively safe community, though petty crime has risen in recent years which is most likely due to urban sprawl from the twin cities. Albert Lea is average in its diversity and cultural uniqueness, leaving much to be desired. The public school system is average at best, with an increasing number of students making the student to teacher ratio higher every year while the public school buildings slowly deteriorate due to lack of funding.
The housing market in Albert Lea is inexpensive with reasonable property taxes, though many homeowners are beginning to rent their houses to lower income families, which is unfortunately a recipe for the decline of any community. Though crime has only recently become a problem, the police force in Albert Lea are doing the best they can to tackle this problem and to keep the public informed of what's going on and how they can stay safe from these petty criminals.
Overall, Albert Lea is not quite what it used to be in terms of thriving small town. It is still an okay place to live, but if you're looking to raise a family, you're better off spending a few extra dollars and heading closer to the twin cities.
