I've lived in a few different cities in southern California and West Hollywood certainly places near the top of the list. It's close enough to both the ocean and downtown LA that you can easily enjoy both.

er, its close proximity to many stores, parks, and libraries means you usually won't have to go far. There are a lot of opportunities for work, especially in show business, so you probably won't have too much trouble finding a job. The Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is in West Hollywood as well, if you work in the medical field.
For me, the best area in West Hollywood was definitely the Beverly Center. It's a great mall that combines a lot of shopping and entertainment into a single place. There are a lot of high-end brands that have stores in that mall for when you feel like spoiling yourself with an expensive gift.
