Troy, Illinois Small town living at it’s finest! 4 rating By Anonymous ( May 16, 2018) Troy is small town living that is filled with the regular restaurants and fast food franchises that you’ll find in any larger city, like Starbucks and McDonald’s; as well as local eateries with down home southern cooking like Who Dat’s Southern Food on O’Fallon Road. You ...Read More can also find weekend farmers markets and great recreation areas like the Troy City Park if you’re a nature person. Great for family cookouts and barbeques and just hanging out enjoying the hot summer days in Troy! My family and I frequent the parks a lot during the summer months. You just have to make sure to bring your sunscreen because it does get sweltering here in the summer!
Troy has a great public transportation system and is only a short distance to neighboring St. Louis if you want to explore a larger city. The school system is ok, could be better, but certainly not the worst in the state. Crime is really low here and I’d consider it an ideal place if you have young children. Troy also has wonderful libraries and museums and you will find many outlets for entertainment; including many small clubs, bars and cafes. Though the nightlife isn’t comparable to those available in a large city; there are movie theaters, small venues for listening to live music and plenty to keep you occupied. It’s a very family-oriented town and there are many places that cater to those with children in the area.
The local housing and job market is better than average, with housing prices relatively stable and the unemployment rates in Troy have always been below the national average. Someone just starting out or at the mid-level stage of their career should have no problem finding stable employment and affordable housing in the area.
I love living here and the local community is close-knit and welcoming. If you are looking for a family-oriented, small town that’s geared toward families and a slower pace of life, then I’d definitely recommend considering the area. Read Less
