Don't Move Here User Rating 0.5 rating By Anonymous ( Dec 11, 2018) I grew up in Tooele City after moving here in grade school and have called it my home for the last 15 years. I can say with certainty, DO NOT MOVE HERE. While the crime rate is not as high as neighboring cities with weekly shootings such as Magna, West Valley, or South Salt La ...Read More ke; Tooele City does have a high rate of vehicle thefts and a large drug problem. For some reason people feel like the town is still small enough to leave their car doors unlocked then wonder why their cars are stolen. Must be something in the water to make people so stupid. The police understaffed, over worker, and do not have the support of their community or the court system. They charge the many dealers and crooks but they get let go with community service by the judges. If you are into recreational activities, Tooele County has plenty to offer. Hiking, skiing, trail riding, horse back riding, motor cross, and tons of places to ride ATV/Motorbikes and such. Tooele City however is severely lacking in the entertainment department. There are 3 dive bars that are only good for the 40+ crowd that were born and raised here. Heaven forbid if the younger crowd wants to go out on the town. There are plenty of chain restaurants, mainly a variety of mexican places that are all the same. Special gems like Dairy Delight make the town special though. There are two movie theaters (the Ritz has been there since 1939 and is only $2.00, they also own 1 of the 5 last remaining drive-ins in the state!), a bowling alley, an indoor pool, and a few parks. Like I mentioned before, the drugs have been an issue and makes the parks unsafe to unaccompanied children/teenagers/young adults. It is not uncommon to find used needles in the grass and gutters. All entertainment requires a 30-minute drive to the Salt Lake area, most malls are 45-minutes away so better make a day of it.The school district started a dual-language in the elementary schools which is a plus. Each school has a different language so if you are looking for a specific one, you would need to request a transfer of schools. There are a lot of resources for those with learning disabilities; however, if you do not have the correct paperwork from doctors approved by the school district, it is impossible to get any accommodations. The overall learning within the district for all grades is laughable. Teachers pass students so they don't have to deal with them longer than they need, despite if students should be held back a grade or two. It is well known that teachers change grades for high school seniors to make sure the graduation rates look good. Like many other places I'm sure, the only learning is what would be on the standardized tests and nothing else. The community is known to come together in time of tragedy. There was a fire in the summer of 2016 which displaced 18 families (the biggest event in recent history) and the entire town pitched in to feed, clothe, and house the families. There are many active Facebook pages that you can find information and goods for everything. The people that live in Tooele City mainly commute for work to the cities 30-60 minutes away, not a lot work locally. Decent mortgage rates are currently in the high 200s and low 300s range. Anything under 200s is in a not so great neighborhood. The city gets sued a lot, and loses all of them, so taxes go up every year. 2018 there was a 114% tax increase!! Yikes! Bottom Line: Move here at your own risk. Read Less
