SUGAR LAND IS ONLY FOR THE ELITE AND VERYWEALTHY User Rating 0.5 rating By Anonymous ( Apr 17, 2020) Sugar Land is horribly over rated unless you are fairly well off. It is a community of elitist and people who think very highly of themselves. The Police Dept is despicable, over zealous and under report the real crimes in the city. The politics are borderline criminal. The b ...Read More usiness and rental situation is absurd. Retail space pricing is outrageous. Landlords have to pay fees and have city approval to rent their properties. Mid-range rentals, apts and houses are virtually non-existent . I would be really surprised if there is a single Section 8 house in the city. Many of major sports team players from Houston live in gated and highly patrolled and protected sub-divisions in Sugar Land. (Similar to Frisco in the Dallas area). Local ordinances are designed to keep a certain "element" out of the city.(verifiable) When I moved out of Sugar Land to Katy (much better TEXAS like community), there was not one laundry mat in the city limits. (Great when you have no power due to hurricanes and inclement weather). Floods often, drainage a real problem. By the way, Sugar Land is surrounded by lower class neighborhoods on all 4 sides and they make every effort to keep Sugar Land very restricted. It is also pretty much built out. There is little to no room to grow. The city even closed down a historical prison which had been there for almost 100 years to keep out the rifraf. Maybe they should gate the whole city. Never again would I live there or recommend living there. Someone related traffic was tolerable, NOT TRUE. I gave it 1/2 a star. There are some historical documents and interesting information about how the city has tried to delete the past to suit their current population requirements and elitist mentality. This quote from another resident who moved out is a crock: "boast cultural amenities, pro-business environments, highly educated workforces and great salaries", and according to Money Magazine and CNN, Sugar Land is in the TOP 100 places to live in the NATION! If this doesn't bleed elitism, I don't know what is. Don't believe everything you read about SUGAR LAND. Read Less
Some things people leave out User Rating 3 rating By BUBBASMITH ( Dec 11, 2014) The city heavily regulates building and business codes, making it more difficult to open, and expensive to maintain, a business. The police are quite active with stopping people for radar, and using red light cameras. It is my opinion that the crime rate is significantly under re ...Read More ported. There are parts of the city that are safe and some not so nice areas.
Access to internet and phone services is regulated by the city so prices have been significantly higher than surrounding areas. The city even has an additional tax on your cell phone. Prices for many items are higher at the stores in the city, and better prices can be found nearby. This is not a place to go for nightlife. It is a bit of a drive (45-60 minutes) to the downtown in the morning. Most of the newer large roads to and around the neigboring cities are now toll roads.
The city is clean. It is growing, most of the schools are above average. There are very good hospitals and physicians. The roads inside the city have a good flow during most times of the day. There is a nice local stadium which is low cost and fun for kids. Read Less
