Not a college town User Rating 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( Oct 23, 2022) Stony brook is NOT a college town in any way, shape or form. It has NEVER. BEEN. It’s not like some small southern town where everybody goes to the big game on Saturday night. The community is not involved in the college..it is its own entity and most of the students are inter ...Read More national…it has state police the deal with the crime there…Sony Brook is a great town all by itself…residents rarely attend the school, most go to community college then go out of state. Please correct you intro to reflect this non-college town..the college just happens to be here and there are no tax breaks for it being here..we have possibly the highest taxes in the nation…. Stony Brook is more than the University User Rating 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 23, 2018) Stony brook is a nice Long Island town that is well known for the SUNY university in the town which is one of the leading science schools in the country. The town of Stony brook is much more than just a college town, though it is certainly influenced by the presence of the univer ...Read More sity in many positive ways.

The college puts a lot of money into the town indirectly through tax revenue and this is reinvested in the local school district. While homes in Stony Brook are expensive, their taxes are reasonable.

Stony Brook also has nice hiking and outdoor trails to walk in and a nice mix of restaurants. There are a lot of Asian students st the University which has led to specialty Chinese grocery stores and restaurants such as the Red Tiger Dumpling House and the Green Tea Restaurant. There is an excellent tea house called Robinson’s Tea House with delicious scones in a cottage like atmosphere.

Overall, Stony Brook is a wonderful town in Suffolk County to live in and one with great amenities. Read Less
