my hometown Review User Rating 4.5 rating By Dreamergirl ( Nov 25, 2021) I loved Stillwater, OK. I Mean there wasn't truly very much to do. But they Had Da Vinci's and they are still, in my opinion, the best italian place EVER! ...Read More Read Less
Nice Place to Pass Through User Rating 3 rating By TransientContributor ( Dec 14, 2017) I've lived in Stillwater for about 5 years now. It is a college town, but definitely not what you'd expect from a college town. The area around the college is pretty dull, mostly all of the restaurants are fast food, fast casual, or chains - there is not a lot of local flavor whi ...Read More ch is pretty disappointing. Also, considering how many families are here and it seems to be growing, there is not a lot for kids to do, so if you have kids, plan on driving to Tulsa or OKC when you want to do something fun. For younger kids, there is the Wondertorium, which is a fantastic place, but once the kids are 9+, it's not as fun for them. The schools here are very good - my kids have attended Westwood, Sangre Ridge, and Stillwater Middle School and have had great experiences and growth at all. As far as community, it's a very hard place to get plugged into if you aren't from here. But there are plenty of other people here who are passing through via the University, so it's easy to meet people that way. OSU offers lots of free events for students and families, especially during the summer and around the holidays. They also offer very, very cheap tutoring for elementary and middle school students for 8 weeks twice a year for only $25 for each 8 weeks - you really can't beat that. Also, because there are many students here, we have good access to affordable and high quality violin lessons for our daughter at a price that is unbeatable! So there are many benefits of this small-town, college living, but also there is so much more that the City of Stillwater could do to make this town a more interesting and unique place. The job market here is also not great, it is very tough to gain employment with the university if you aren't already plugged in or know someone, and aside from university jobs, there aren't a ton of decent paying jobs. I'm overall very happy with the time that we've spent here as a family, but I'm also ready to move on to a place that can offer us more opportunities and leisure activities. Read Less
Stillwater, Oklahoma: Family Friendly or College Student Haven? User Rating 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 12, 2015) I lived in Stillwater, Oklahoma while attending college at Oklahoma State University. Having grown up in a small town, Stillwater felt like a good blend of country life and big city adventure. With plenty for the average college student to do, as well as an abundance of family fr ...Read More iendly opportunities, I quickly felt right at home.

Stillwater is arranged in a grid pattern making it very easy to find your way around, especially for a visitor or newcomer to the area. I found it relatively easy to find good, affordable housing. While there aren't a large number of homes to rent or purchase, there are plenty of quality neighborhoods that provide great homes and apartments regardless of your family situation. The shopping experience is adequate with grocery, retail and specialty stores sprinkled throughout the city. Restaurants are abundant with many choices ranging from a quaint hole in the wall to mainline eateries. Like any small city, sometimes you find exactly what you are looking for and other times you are just out of luck. Parks, libraries, and other expected amenities are plentiful, and the college provides sporting, music, and other events throughout the year. Stillwater is even home to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame which draws visitors and wrestling enthusiasts from across the nation.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay in Stillwater. It was a nice place to live for the time I was there, but when it was time to leave that was ok. It was a good place to call home while studying and is a decent place to raise a family; not too big, yet not too small. Read Less
