Inexpensive option to St. Paul 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 16, 2018) South St. Paul is a southern suburb of the city of St. Paul that is situated along the Mississippi River. The city itself is beautiful, with nature lining most of the city's river bank. This is especially true in the fall season when the beautiful warm colors line the trees along ...Read More the river. South St. Paul is a decent community, with a good public school system and fair housing market. The city overall is safe, though it is worth noting that crime has risen is recent years. With that being said, the crime has risen in only a few places throughout the city and is being dealt with well by the local police.

The shopping and nightlife in South St. Paul is decent at best. Most of the restaurants within the city are franchises. The good news is that you're right next to St. Paul, so unique dining experiences and more diverse shopping options are only a short drive away.

Overall, South St. Paul is a nice place to live. It would be a good option for raising a family, but if you're younger and not quite ready to settle down then the city of St. Paul may be a better choice. Read Less
