ds to a rich and interesting gathering of leisure and economic activity.
Many older homes, as well as homes that have been hit hard by economic misfortune have been replaced by condos and townhouses, as well as taken under large company domains, and redeveloped.
It was first names, "Market Village" and has a town square by that name with an extraordinary fountain where many retail shops are located. This, and Market Square, another shopping plaza are designed with turn-of-the-century brick walkways and antique street lamp fixtures. The more sprawling Belmont Hills plaza is undergoing a remodeling project that will be more modified and include name brand products and stores.
Ron Gant and Julia Roberts were born and raised here in this relaxed community, you will find the very market southern drawls here easy to understand should you be from out west, but have often heard in the speech of these two notable people.
IBM has a headquarters here, and Kroger building reconstruction is underway, both being a vital part of the economic picture. Yet with these giant present day companies, you will find sitting quite close by a restoration of a Civil War memorial, commemorating two battles fought here in 1864. You can find very modern buildings next to historical areas in the downtown area of this small city, which makes a self tour of high interest to many who live and visit the city.
Weekly musical concerts of country and rock/pop music are held in Market Village, many open air.
