Beautiful Area and Lots of Local Options. Subpar Everything Else User Rating 3 rating By Anonymous ( Apr 08, 2022) It's really hard to review a city that has so many contrasting facets to it:
1. It's a beautiful city with fantastic views. BUT if you even think about going for a quiet walk at night to admire the beautiful views or try to catch a glimpse at the stars, the overbearing private ci
...Read More ty security or local police will get in your face and force you to leave. Why? Because some people used to be loud at night, and instead of punishing those people, they punish every single person who dares leave their house at night to take an evening stroll. I'm not joking. They actually do this. You can hardly walk around ANYWHERE at night: zero parks, zero trails. Innocent, property-tax-paying residents don't deserve to be treated like this.
2. The neighborhoods are clean, pleasant, and well taken care of. BUT you had better lock your car if you park here. Despite private security and local police strictly preventing anyone from even stepping in a local park at night, people's cars are broken into and even stolen, sometimes right next to the very "public" parks that are strictly closed off and rigorously enforced.
3. The weather, like much of California, is excellent. Lots of clear skies and bright vibes. BUT if you're expecting the red carpet welcome, think again. Involuntary, forced-to-join HOAs run by antagonistic, power-tripping residents. Loose neighborhood communities that don't really congregate. Instead, surveillance cameras/doorbell cameras at almost every house. Save for certain areas, asking your neighbor for a cup of sugar might not get the reaction you would expect. A few select areas do still retain a kind neighborhood community feel.
4. Great accessibility to surrounding neighborhoods. BUT, no public transportation on top of the hill. In fact, not much of anything on top of the hill. But if you have transportation, enjoy many local dining and shopping areas like The Pike Outlets, and further away enjoyments like Disneyland and Six Flags.

If the city didn't tape off public areas at night so they could actually be "public areas", HOAs were voluntary, and crime was better handled, Signal Hill could easily be a bright spot. But it's not a perfect city. Objectively weigh what is said here and elsewhere before making a decision. Read Less
Signal Hill - Average City with Pros and Cons User Rating 3 rating By Anonymous ( May 23, 2018) I think Signal Hill has some positives and negatives that need to weighed before determining whether it could be the right place for your family. For the most part, it is relatively expensive to live in this region. Many of the houses cost several hundreds of thousands of dollars ...Read More if not in the million dollar price range.

The city is relatively peaceful, but may not be great for kids that are going to elementary school or high school. The school districts tend to average out poorly compared to other districts in nearby cities. The crime rates are also concerning when you compare the rate to cities around Signal Hill.

One positive is that the weather is nice at all times of the year, and there are many places to enjoy around Signal Hill. There are bike routes and restaurants within driving distance of the neighborhood. There are some shopping centers that can get congested from time to time, but for the most part everything is really nice. Read Less
