I was born in Cattonsville, but my family moved to Severn when I was 3. I spent the next two decades of my life living in Severn. I lived right off of Route 100, which meant moving around was always easy. Severn's biggest strength is also its weakness; the small city is located v ...Read More
ery close to both Baltimore and Washington D.C. Severn is located about 25 minutes from the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, and half an hour from a D.C. metro station. This makes D.C. harder to get to, but unless you wanted to visit the Smithsonian, that wont be an issue. Parking in Baltimore is significantly easier anyway.
Severn has its fair share of national chain restaurants, and a few local gems. Little Spice is a local thai restaurant that really breaks up the monotony of burger joints and Italian places. If you were looking for night clubs, you are going to have to drive into the city to find the best spots, but for something a little different, try the casino. Maryland Live opened several years back, and is always popular. Parking is nothing short of impossible during peak hours, but it's well worth the hassle. The casino might not have a dance floor, but with tons of tables and slots there are plenty of ways to try and walk out richer. On top of that the food in there is delicious; Bobby Flay even has a restaurant in there with some weird, incredible burgers.
Like most of Maryland, Severn has good public schooling. I started college at Anne Arundel Community college, and use Maryland's transfer program to finish up at College Park. The program applies to all Maryland colleges, but living so close to route 100 meant that I could easily commute to classes. Growing up, people would say we lived fifteen minutes from anywhere, and I find this to be true. For me though, fifteen from anywhere is just where I like.
