I've live in Seminole a little over 5 years. Yes, the Tampa/St. Pete area is beautiful. But the weather, OMG! You had better like hot and humid. Summer can start in May and end as late as November. The humidity is awful. The minute you step outside you start sweating. You had better consider this during Hurricane season when you don't have power due to a storm. I went several days without power last September and it was trying. Generators will keep you awake at night and the hot weather will drain you during the day. In August, it feels like you are breathing through a hot wet washcloth. December through April is often beautiful but you will compete with the tourists and snow birds for everything. Seminole is close to St. Pete which offers lots of cute shops, restaurants, etc... It's quite nice. There are lots of great things about this area, but personally, I think its overstated. The beaches are crowded and overdeveloped and it's difficult to park. Florida has a lot of beauty with their beaches. However, many beaches chose to overdevelop and that beauty is somewhat lost in my opinion. I prefer Oregon where you can drive the coast and actually see it. I go to the beach to see the beach. Not gobs of people and their litter and Not condos and hotels. Just my opinion. During tourist season (Oct -April) when the weather is better, you have a crazy amount of snowbirds to deal with, including their driving. Traffic becomes worse as does parking. The cost of living is great; however, home prices have spiked making it more expensive to buy a home. Same goes for rent. If you like water activities, this area is great for that year round. There are also many nice parks in the area. In regards to the entire St. Pete/Tampa area, I really enjoy the Seminole area. It's small and cute. I can get to work in 15 minutes as well as the beach. It takes about 25 minutes to get to Clearwater and 30+ minutes to get to Tampa depending on traffic, accidents etc... Personally, I rarely cross the bridge to leave St. Pete. I love our house and neighborhood and they will be greatly missed when I relocate. I also like Seminole because it is higher elevation and some areas do not require flood insurance. This is a BIG DEAL. A lot areas flood in Tampa/St. Pete during tropical storms. Before I purchased in this area, I actually visited during a tropical storm and drove through the neighborhoods. That is how I ended up picking Seminole and I am glad that I did. I encourage anyone looking to move here to visit in August. If you like it in August, you will be fine. lol . I tend to prefer something with changing seasons. Here it is warm and hot with maybe 1-3 weeks with cooler. Again, some people love this. I do not. I feel like the people are pretty friendly here and I haven't been the victim of any crimes. Also, keep in mind this is a retirement area. I think the median age is the mid 50s. St. Pete is pretty popular with the millennials though and I think more are locating to the area. I prefer more of a variety. There are many things to love about the area but for me, the hot humid weather is too much.
